Publicación Acceso abierto Regulación emocional cognitiva y estrés académico en estudiantes de educación de una universidad pública de Arequipa, 2025(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2026-03-18) Yucra Calcina, Abraham; Herrera Álvarez, Ángela MaríaThe purpose of the research was to determine the relationship between cognitive emotional regulation and academic stress in education students at a public university in Arequipa. This study is relevant because it seeks to verify, based on empirical evidence, whether emotional resources influence the way students cope with the demands of university life, considering that adequate emotional management promotes both personal well-being and academic performance. The study had a quantitative approach, correlational level, and non experimental cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 82 students from the Faculty of Education. Validated and reliable instruments were applied: the Cognitive Emotional Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ) and the SISCO Academic Stress Inventory. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, employing Spearman's correlation test. The results showed a moderate and significant negative relationship between cognitive emotional regulation and academic stress (ρ = -0.460; p < 0.05), indicating that greater emotional regulation is associated with lower levels of stress. In addition, an inverse correlation was identified with academic stressors and stress symptoms, and a positive correlation with coping strategies, reflecting that students regulate their emotions and use effective strategies when faced with stressful situations. In conclusion, cognitive emotional regulation acts as a protective factor against academic stress, contributing to the well-being and performance of university students.
