Publicación Acceso abierto Actividad antimicótica "in vitro" del aceite esencial del fruto maduro de Schinus molle L. (molle) frente a cepa de Candida albicans ATCC 10231(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-07-09) Zambrano Ospinal, Agar Leonor; Jaramillo Briceño, Marilú RicardinaThis study was developed with the objective of evaluating the in vitro antifungal activity of the essential oil (EO) from the mature fruit of Schinus molle L. (Molle) against the Candida albicans ATCC 10231 strain. Methodology: The methodology used was experimental, explanatory, quantitative, and applied. The fruit was collected in the Huamanga province (Ayacucho). The essential oil (EO) was extracted by steam distillation. The antifungal activity was evaluated using the Kirby-Bauer method (disk diffusion). The strain was seeded on 18 plates with Sabouraud Dextrose Agar at a turbidity of 0.5 McFarland. The EO was evaluated at concentrations of 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%, using Fluconazole 25 µg as a positive control and dimethyl sulfoxide as a negative control. The inhibition zones were measured with a digital vernier caliper at 24, 48, and 72 hours. Results: The EO of Schinus molle L. showed inhibition halos of 6 mm at 40 and 60%, 9.7 mm at 80%, and 12.3 mm at 100%. It is concluded that the EO at 40 and 60% presented no activity, but at 80 and 100% it presented antifungal activity against the Candida albicans ATCC 10231 strain.
