Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of community interventions to improve therapeutic adherence in patients with type II diabetes mellitus(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-10-13) Diaz Madueño, Norka Elizabeth; Zeña Armas, Noemí; Matta Solis, Hernan HugoObjective: To systematize evidence on the effectiveness of community interventions in improving therapeutic adherence in patients with type II diabetes mellitus. Materials and Methods: A retrospective and observational systematic review was conducted, synthesizing results and conclusions from research studies. Articles were obtained from high-impact scientific databases and were related to the PICO question. The GRADE system was used to assign the quality of evidence and strength of recommendation. Finally, the articles underwent a systematic and critical analysis, leading to the best practical answers for professional use. Results: Of the 10 selected articles, 5 were systematic reviews, 1 was a meta-analysis, 3 were randomized trials, and 1 was a quasi-experimental study. 80% of community interventions were carried out by professionals, while 20% were conducted by health promoters. Interventions varied, with the most common being educational counseling, text messages, and motivational interviews aimed at increasing therapeutic adherence. Effectiveness was directly evaluated using questionnaires in 30% of articles and indirectly through hemoglobin A1c, fasting glucose, and body mass index in 70% of articles. Conclusion: The systematic review of the 10 articles provides evidence of the effectiveness of community interventions in improving therapeutic adherence in patients with type II diabetes mellitus.
