While emotional overload is defined as physical, mental and social wear and tear that in the long term could generate negative consequences or some type of disorder, you can find ways to cope and confront this type of situation by creating coping skills. Objective: Determine the emotional overload in direct family caregivers of patients with schizophrenia at the Regional Teaching Hospital of Trujillo in 2020. Methodology: A descriptive, non-experimental, cross-sectional study is carried out. The study population is made up of 70 direct caregivers of hospitalized patients. The Spanish version of Zarit's emotional overload will be applied as an instrument according to 3 dimensions: Impact of care, quality of the interpersonal relationship, self-efficacy expectations. The data obtained will be tabulated and statistically processed, applying the SPSS 22 statistical package and Excel.
