    Patient positioning efficiency to prevent ventilator- associated pneumonia in the intensive care unit

    OBJECTIVE: To systematically analyze all available evidence from studies related to the effectiveness of patient positioning in preventing ventilator-associated pneumonia in the Intensive Care Unit. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The population consists of 10 scientific articles published in accredited journals, with a maximum age of 10 years, which were found in various databases: Cochrane, Lilacs, Scielo, Medline, and Pubmed. These articles were then examined using the GRADE scale to assess their strength and quality of evidence. RESULTS: Of the 10 articles reviewed, 60% are related to systematic review methodology, 20% are meta-analyses, and 20% are randomized clinical trials. All 10 articles systematically analyzed report on the effectiveness of patient positioning to prevent ventilator-associated pneumonia in the Intensive Care Unit. Furthermore, 90% of them indicate that elevating the head of the bed to a semi-recumbent or semi-sitting position at an angle greater than 30° is effective in reducing the incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia.
