Ítem Acceso abierto What is the association between the knowledge of the nursing staff on the management of the odor of malignant tumor wounds and the quality of life of the patient.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-04-24) Montalván Zambrano, María Estela; Cárdenas de Fernández, María HildaObjective: To analyze and systematize the association between nursing staff knowledge in odor management and quality of life in patients with tumor wounds. Materials and methods: This is a quantitative study and a systematic review design, summarizing the results of several surveys. There were a total of 35 articles, the sample included 12 articles rated as quite important, the GRADE system was used to establish the strength of recommendation. Results: 80% of the papers reported that the healing of tumor wounds applied different techniques to reduce odor and protect the wound, thus improving the quality of life of patients and their family environment. Likewise, 70% of the articles reported effectiveness in the control of tumor wounds by reducing the production of exudate and thus reducing odors and social isolation. Conclusions: A comprehensive review demonstrated an association between nursing staff knowledge of odor and quality of life in patients with tumor wounds. This palliative approach will aim to control the associated signs and symptoms to improve patient comfort and quality of life. Better training of professionals in the field and the establishment of updated clinical practice guidelines are necessary to improve the care provided.
