Ítem Acceso abierto Self-care and its relation to blood glucose values in diabetic patients treated at Villa Salud Hospital, March 2013(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-03-22) Hurtado Arango, Paulina, Cuya Mendoza, Carmen; Chávez Flores, Erik MarioThe study is of an observational, prospective, cross-sectional, and analytical type with a cross-relational design. The sample consisted of 88 diabetic patients, selected through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. The ASA Scale was used to measure self-care, and a glucometer was used to observe blood glucose values (mg/dl). Additionally, Spearman's Rho was employed to test the hypothesis with a significance level of 0.05. The mean age of the diabetic patients in the sample is 57.8 years with a ±SD of 1.13 years (55.1 – 60.2 years); 52.3% are women and 47.7% are men. 54.5% have a regular level of self-care, 31.8% have a low level, and only 11.4% have good self-care. In the item dimensions, most participants scored indicating a regular level of self-care. A negative and moderate relationship was found between self-care and blood glucose values [Rho=0.502; p-value=0.000].
