MATERIAL AND METHODS: The systematic review of the 10 scientific articles on the effectiveness of abdominal drainage to prevent intraperitoneal abscess in patients after complicated appendectomy, were obtained from the following databases Epistemonikos, Pubmed, Scielo, Dialnet, Iasj.net, Corea.net, Sciencedrect and Google scholar. They were analyzed according to the Grade scale to determine the strength and quality of the evidence. Of the 10 articles, 40% (4/10) correspond to the methodological design of case-control studies, 30% (3/10) to a Retrospective Cohort Study, 20% (2/10) to Randomized Controlled Trials and 10% (1/10) a Systematic review. Being 30% High Quality and 70% Moderate Quality. RESULTS: Of the 10 articles reviewed, 100% (10/10) demonstrate that abdominal drainage is not effective in preventing intraperitoneal abscess in patients after complicated appendectomy. CONCLUSIONS: The present systematic review concludes that 10 of 10 evidence indicates that abdominal drainage is not effective in preventing intraperitoneal abscess in patients after complicated appendectomy.
