Ítem Acceso abierto Chemical and accessibility characteristics of children’s toothpaste marketed in Lima-Peru, 2022(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-11-06) Acevedo Alvarez, Fiorella Del Rosario; Arauzo Sinchez, Carlos JavierThe purpose of this research was to evaluate the chemical characteristics and accessibility of children's toothpaste sold in Lima, Peru. The methodology used in the study was descriptive, cross-sectional, and comparative, where both physical and virtual searches were conducted for children's toothpaste sold in Lima Metropolitan area. A total of 8 stores were considered (Vivanda, Tottus, Plaza Vea, Wong, Metro, Inkafarma, Mifarma, and Hogar&Salud), recording their chemical characteristics (total fluoride) and accessibility (sale price). A total of 72 children's toothpastes were found in the 8 stores, of which, excluding duplicates, 23 different toothpastes were recorded. These were categorized by the presence of total fluoride: 3 without fluoride; 5 with low concentration; 13 with the recommended concentration for children, and 2 with high concentration. Thirteen percent did not contain fluoride, and 21.7% had a low concentration of fluoride. Fifty-six point five percent had a concentration of 1000 ppm, while 8.7% had a high fluoride concentration (>1100 ppm). The toothpastes showed a variety of flavors, with bubblegum flavor being the most prominent. The prices of the recommended children's toothpastes ranged between 3.2 soles and 18.9 soles, with an average price of 9.7 soles.
