    Actividad ansiolítica y antidepresiva del aceite esencial de las semillas de Foeniculum vulgare Mill. “hinojo” en ratones albinos

    According to the World Health Organization (WHO), depression and anxiety account for 4.3% of the global burden of morbidity. The objective of this study was to determine the anxiolytic and antidepressant activity of the essential oil from the seeds of Foeniculum vulgare Mill., 'fennel,' in albino mice. Methodology: The methodology used was experimental, explanatory, quantitative, and applied. The seeds were collected in the province of Huarochirí (Matucana). The essential oil (EO) was extracted by hydrodistillation. The anxiolytic activity was evaluated using the marble burying method in 40 mice at oral doses of 2.5, 5, and 10 mL/kg of EO, compared to diazepam at 10 mg/kg. The antidepressant activity was evaluated using the forced swim test in 40 mice at oral doses of 2.5, 5, and 10 mL/kg of EO, compared to fluoxetine at 20 mg/kg. Results: The essential oil of Foeniculum vulgare showed antidepressant activity at the first two doses and anxiolytic activity at all three doses. Conclusion: The essential oil demonstrated antidepressant activity at doses of 2.5, 5, and 10 mL/kg and showed activity comparable to diazepam.

    Actividad antimicótica "in vitro" del aceite esencial del fruto maduro de Schinus molle L. (molle) frente a cepa de Candida albicans ATCC 10231

    This study was developed with the objective of evaluating the in vitro antifungal activity of the essential oil (EO) from the mature fruit of Schinus molle L. (Molle) against the Candida albicans ATCC 10231 strain. Methodology: The methodology used was experimental, explanatory, quantitative, and applied. The fruit was collected in the Huamanga province (Ayacucho). The essential oil (EO) was extracted by steam distillation. The antifungal activity was evaluated using the Kirby-Bauer method (disk diffusion). The strain was seeded on 18 plates with Sabouraud Dextrose Agar at a turbidity of 0.5 McFarland. The EO was evaluated at concentrations of 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%, using Fluconazole 25 µg as a positive control and dimethyl sulfoxide as a negative control. The inhibition zones were measured with a digital vernier caliper at 24, 48, and 72 hours. Results: The EO of Schinus molle L. showed inhibition halos of 6 mm at 40 and 60%, 9.7 mm at 80%, and 12.3 mm at 100%. It is concluded that the EO at 40 and 60% presented no activity, but at 80 and 100% it presented antifungal activity against the Candida albicans ATCC 10231 strain.

    Actividad antimicrobiana del aceite esencial de Origanum vulgare L. “orégano peruano” frente a Staphylococcus aureus

    The objective of this research was to confirm the antimicrobial activity of the essential oil of Origanum vulgare L., "Peruvian Oregano," against Staphylococcus aureus. The essential oil was obtained by steam distillation and purified with anhydrous sodium sulfate. The analysis of the main phytochemical components of the oil was performed using organoleptic and instrumental methods. The antimicrobial activity was assayed against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 using the disk diffusion method (Kirby-Bauer), with Gentamicin 10 µg (OXOID brand) as the positive control and dimethyl sulfoxide as the negative control. Results: The essential oil had a good yield of 2.02%, distilled in 60 minutes, with a density of 0.9132 g/mL and a refractive index of 1.475. The main components were carvacrol and thymol. The essential oil of Origanum vulgare L. showed antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538, with inhibition halos of 11.47,13.40,16.60, and 19.65 mm at concentrations of 25,50,75, and 100 µg/mL, respectively. The gentamicin control resulted in an inhibition halo of 30.14 mm. Conclusion: The highest antimicrobial activity of the essential oil of Origanum vulgare L. "Peruvian Oregano" against Staphylococcus aureus was confirmed at 100 µg/mL.

    Actividad repelente in vitro de los aceites esenciales de Syzygium aromaticum "clavo de olor" y Cinnamomum verum "canela" sobre Aedes Aegypti

    The objective of this study was to evaluate the in vitro repellent activity of the essential oils of Syzygium aromaticum ('clove') and Cinnamomum verum ('cinnamon') and a 50/50 v/v combination of both oils on Aedes aegypti. The essential oils were obtained by steam distillation, and the area preference method was used to evaluate repellent activity. The repellent activity of the essential oils and the 50/50 v/v combination was evaluated on the Aedes aegypti Rockefeller strain at various concentrations (0.2%, 0.1%, 0.05%, 0.03%, and 0.01%). N,N-diethyl-3-methylbenzamide (DEET) at 15% was used as a positive control, and acetone was used as a negative control. It was concluded that the essential oils of Syzygium aromaticum, Cinnamomum verum, and their combination do have in vitro repellent activity on Aedes aegypti. The minimum repellent concentration was 0.03%, and the repellency time was five (5) hours at concentrations of 0.05%, 0.1%, and 0.2%. Furthermore, the in vitro repellency level was found to be between class IV and V (using the Talukder and Howes rating) at the 0.05%, 0.1%, and 0.2% concentrations from the 1st to the 5th hour.

    Determinación fitoquímica y actividad antimicrobiana del aceite esencial de los órganos aéreos de Lepechinia meyenii (Walp.) Epling "pacha salvia"

    The plant species Lepechinia meyenii (Walp.) Epling (commonly known as salvia, pacha salvia, salvia de puna, kotapuriña) is a native plant that grows in the southern Andean regions of Peru (Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Cuzco, and Puno). The main objective of the present study was to conduct a phytochemical evaluation and determine the antimicrobial activity of the essential oil obtained from the aerial parts of Lepechinia meyenii (Walp.) Epling “pacha salvia.” In the methodology, a gas chromatograph coupled with a mass spectrometer (GC-MS) was employed to determine the phytochemical composition, and the agar diffusion method (Kirby-Bauer) was used to evaluate antimicrobial activity. The results showed the presence of 31 components, with the major compounds being α-pinene (21.37%), eucalyptol (1,8-cineole = 18.80%), and D-limonene (15.43%). The essential oil demonstrated antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 when compared with gentamicin 10 µg. It is concluded that the essential oil from the aerial parts of Lepechinia meyenii (Walp.) Epling “pacha salvia” contains active components with antimicrobial activity.

    Efectividad del aceite esencial de mintostachys mollis griseb en concentraciones de 25%, 50% y 100% frente a porphiromonas gingivales ATCC ® 33277™ en el laboratorio scientific quality, 2023

    La actual investigación propuso determinar la efectividad del aceite esencial de Mintostachys mollis Griseb en concentraciones de 25%, 50% y 100% frente a Porphiromonas gingivales ATCC® 33277™. Se realizó una investigación cuantitativa, aplicado, de tipo experimental, transversal con alcance descriptivo; se analizaron 08 muestras para ver el impacto de las niveles del aceite esencial de Mintostachys mollis frente a Porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC 33277 a las 24, 48 y 72 horas de examen. Se pudo evidenciar que los aceites esenciales de Mintostachys mollis al 100% y 50% presentaron una media halo de bloqueo de 14,50 ± 1,068 mm y de 12,54 ± 0,465 mm, al 25% no registró actividad antibacteriana en este periodo de tiempo, control positivo, ciprofloxacino de 500mg, una media halo de bloqueo de 32,04 ± 0,830 mm a las 24 horas respectivamente, a las 48 horas las concentraciones al 100% y 50% presentaron una media halo de bloqueo de 14,11 ± 1,050 mm y de 12,23 ± 0,497 mm, al 25% no registró actividad antibacteriana, el ciprofloxacino de 500mg, obtuvo una media halo de bloqueo de 31,74 ± 0,794mm, a las 72 horas las concentraciones al 100% y 50% presentaron una media halo de bloqueo de 13,82 ± 1,065 mm y de 11,93 ± 0,494 mm al 25% no registró actividad antibacteriana, el ciprofloxacino de 500mg, obtuvo una media halo de bloqueo 31,42 ± 0,774mm. Frente a Porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC 33277, se puede concluir que los promedios de los aceites esenciales de Minthostachys mollis al 25% no ningún efecto antibacteriano, al 50% y 100% tienen efecto bacteriano pero menor que la actividad biocida del Ciprofloxacino de 500mg, a las 24, 48 y 72 horas de estudio.

    Efecto antibacteriano del aceite esencial de zingiber officinale en comparación con la clorhexidina al 0,12% sobre porphyromonas gingivalis – estudio in vitro Lima 2023

    En la presente investigación el objetivo principal es determinar la diferencia de la efectividad antibacteriana del aceite esencial de Zingiber officinale y clorhexidina 0,12% sobre la bacteria Porphyromonas Gingivalis. Es una investigación de método hipotético-deductivo, cuantitativo, experimental in - vitro. Se elaboró una ficha de recolección de datos, mediante una técnica observacional, determinaron la concentración bacteriana (escala de Mc Farland) y usando el método de difusión, sobre placas de Petri llenas de Agar Schaedler y se incubó la porphyromona gingivalis por 10 días; luego de la siembra se colocarán 3 pocillos donde en uno había con aceite esencial de zingiber officinale, clorhexidina al 0.12% y el último con suero fisiológico al 0.9% (control negativo). Se medirá el diámetro de los halos de inhibición en lapsos de tiempo de veinticuatro, cuarenta y ocho y setenta y dos horas con una regla milimetrada. Los datos se ejecutarán en el programa Microsoft Excel versión 16.13.1 y el producto serán analizados con la prueba de normalidad de Shapiro-Wilk; y se utilizarán pruebas de U de Mann Whitney y Kruskal Wallis (Análisis de muestras independientes), pruebas de Friedman y Wilcoxon (Análisis de muestras dependientes). En conclusión, se registró que los elementos de prueba como la clorhexidina al 0,12% y aceite esencial de Zingiber officinale manifestaron efecto antibacteriano ante las cepas de Porphyromonas gingivalis en los 3 tiempos de prueba ensayados.

    Efecto inhibidor de las concentraciones mínimas del aceite esencial de muña y orégano en comparación con sustancias antimicrobianas usadas en la terapia pulpar frente a cepas de enterococcus faecalis. Estudio in vitro. Lima 2014

    The aim of this study was to determine the inhibitory effect of minimum concentrations of essential oil of Minthostachys mollis (muña) and Origanum vulgare (orégano) comparing them with antimicrobial substances used in pulp therapy against strains of Enterococcus faecalis. For this purpose, the E. faecalis (ATCC 29212) strains were reactivated and used in the two stages of the study.1. Determination of the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of both essential oils. 2. Determination of the inhibitory effect of these essential oils compared to antimicrobial substances used in pulp therapy. In the first stage, it was found that the CMM of muña essential oil was 10% and the CMM of the oregano essential oil was 30%. In the second stage, E. faecalis were seeded in 56 petri dishes containing Mueller Hinton culture medium with wells of 6mms. of diameter filled with 100 ml of 100% and 10% (CMI) muña essential oil,30% and 100% (CMI) of oregano essential oil, sodium hypochlorite al 5%, chlorhexidine gel at 2% and chlorhexidine solution al 2%, Calcifar - P ® y Tween 20. The petris were incubated at 37 ° C performing the measurement of the inhibition halos with a Vernier caliper or caliper rule at 24 and 48 hours. For the statistics analysis ANOVA and Tukey tests were used. We concluded that the CMM of muña and oregano essential oils have inhibitory effect against E. faecalis at 24 and 48 hours, however its effect is less than 2% chlorhexidine (solution).
