San Antonio in the district of Chosica(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2017-06-21) Julca Carlos, Helen Eliana; Romero Perez, Yessica Paola; Krederdt Araujo, Sherin LuzObjective: To determine the relationship between water consumption and storage habits in mothers of children under 5 years old and intestinal parasitosis in children under 5 years old from the San Antonio Human Settlement, Chosica - 2015. Materials and Methods: This was a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study. A convenience sample of 57 parasitized children from the human settlement was obtained. Two techniques were used: one was an interview, and the instrument was a questionnaire, which was validated by expert judges; the other technique was documentary analysis, and the instrument was a form structured based on the Health Post Registration Book of the jurisdiction. The collected data were entered into the database; to establish the relationship between parasite types and habits, the Chi-square test was used. Results: Almost all (92%) had unhealthy habits; more than half (54%) of the children were parasitized with pinworms, and the rest with Giardia lamblia. There was a relationship between water consumption habits and types of parasites (p< 0.05). Conclusions: A significant relationship was found between water consumption and storage habits and intestinal parasitosis in children under 5 years old; furthermore, most households had access to irrigation water (74%), and just over half of the respondents stored water for later consumption, without observing hygienic measures or subjecting it to any purification process (54%).
