Knowledge and nursing practice on aspiration of bronchial secretion by closed circuit in an adult patient intubated in the Intensive Care Unit of the National Hospital, Lima 2024
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-06-09) Canchalla Curo, Gloria; Pretell Aguilar, Rosa Maria
The objective of this research project was to determine how the proper practice of nurses and a high level of knowledge regarding bronchial secretion aspiration through a closed circuit in intubated patients can exponentially reduce the incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia and other complications that negatively affect critically ill patients. The methodology of the research is based on a quantitative approach, with a non-experimental design and an observational technique. This study adopts a descriptive prospective cross-sectional approach. Informed consent was obtained from the participants before their inclusion in the study. The instruments used consisted of a questionnaire designed by Olarte et al. (45) in Peru in 2017 and an applied observation guide developed and designed by Moreno (46) in Peru in 2017, both of which were used in a population of 80 nurses working in the intensive care unit of a hospital in Lima. The data will be analyzed and recorded in a database for further analysis and presentation.

Nursing knowledge and practices on secretion aspiration in patients connected to mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit of a national hospital, Lima- 2024
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-06-23) Soria Barrientos, Carmen Rosa; Arevalo Marcos, Rodolfo Amado
In critical care areas, it is common for patients to require ventilatory support, such as invasive mechanical ventilation, to prevent respiratory deterioration and allow the respiratory muscles to rest when fatigued due to respiratory failure. To ensure that the bronchial tree remains clear, secretion suctioning is necessary. This procedure must be performed by a trained professional to avoid complications such as tracheal injuries, oxygen deprivation, bronchospasm, bleeding, and infections, among others. Objective: “To determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and practices regarding secretion suctioning in patients connected to mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit of a National Hospital.” The method applied will be hypothetical-deductive, with a quantitative approach and a cross-sectional, correlational, and non-experimental design. Sample: The study will include 70 nurses, who will be administered two validated instruments: a questionnaire and an observation guide. To determine the relationship between the variables, Spearman’s correlation coefficient statistical formula will be used. Finally, the results will be analyzed and presented in tables at the conclusion of the study.
