Publicación Acceso abierto Cuantificación de fenoles y ácido hipúrico como indicadores de exposición al benceno y tolueno en trabajadores de carpintería del distrito San Juan de Lurigancho – Lima 2019(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-06-17) Campos Chavarria, Ana Luisa; Ramos Jaco, Antonio GuillermoThe main objective of this study was to determine the concentration of phenols and hippuric acid in the urine of carpentry workers as indicators of exposure to benzene and toluene. The analytical technique used was UV-Vis spectroscopy. The sample consisted of 30 carpentry workers aged between 28 and 54 years with exposure times ranging from 8 to 30 years, to whom an occupational health survey was applied. The average concentration of phenols in urine was 215.1 mg/L, with a minimum of 138.0 mg/L and a maximum of 295.0 mg/L. Similarly, the average concentration of hippuric acid in urine was 2.02 g/L, with a minimum of 1.34 g/L and a maximum of 2.77 g/L. It was found that the levels of phenols and hippuric acid in urine exceeded the maximum permissible values according to the WHO (75 mg/L and 1.4 g/L) in 100% and 96.67% of the samples, respectively.Publicación Acceso abierto Determinación de la concentración de benceno en aire en los asentamientos humanos cercanos a la refinería de Conchán – Lima 2019(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-09-20) Mallqui Vega, Nelva Mariluz; Alvarez Gutierrez, Paola Janeth; Lizano Gutiérrez, Jesús VíctorThe objective of this research was to determine the concentration of benzene in the air in human settlements near the Conchan-Petroperú refinery in the Lurín district. The methodology used was the determination of benzene via gas chromatography. Sample: Benzene air sampling points were located at three upwind stations: Upwind 1 at the Ampliación Virgen de la Candelaria Human Settlement in Lurín; Upwind 2 at the Huáscar Transport company; and Upwind 3 on the rooftop of a house in Mamacona Alta. Three downwind stations were also set up in the same respective locations. Results: The concentration of benzene was as follows: Upwind 1, 0.0259 µg/m³; Upwind 2, 0.0237 µg/m³; Upwind 3, 0.0219 µg/m³; Downwind 1, 0.0247 µg/m³; Downwind 2, 0.0201 µg/m³; and Downwind 3, 0.0242 µg/m³. Conclusion: The air in the vicinity of the Conchan Refinery did not have benzene concentrations that exceeded the permissible limit of 2 µg/m³ established in the National Environmental Air Quality Standards (ECA) Regulation.Publicación Acceso abierto Evaluación de los factores de riesgo por exposición al benceno en la industria farmacéutica para evitar la neurotoxicidad 2021: revisión sistemática(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-08-09) Guarniz Tocto, Ana Rosita; Ventura Acosta, Rosa Yaqueline; Ramos Jaco, Antonio GuillermoThe objective of this research was to evaluate whether risk factors for benzene exposure in the pharmaceutical industry allow for the prevention of neurotoxicity, given that this solvent is frequently handled, especially in the quality control area. Methodology: This was a descriptive, cross-sectional level study with a quantitative approach, conducted through a systematic review of 25 research articles and theses on the subject. A bibliographic search was applied in databases such as PubMed, SCielo, Redalyc, and Scopus, and the information was reviewed and analyzed using inclusion and exclusion criteria before being processed. Results: A low level of risk factor was found, at 56%. Additionally, 88% of the cases reviewed by the different authors did not utilize personal protective equipment (PPE). Furthermore, the most common route of benzene exposure was inhalation at 60%. Conclusion: The risk factors for benzene exposure were evaluated, identifying the routes of exposure, exposure levels, and the correct use of personal protective equipment, thus preventing occupationally exposed individuals from suffering health damage, especially to the nervous system.Publicación Acceso abierto Identificación de ácido hipúrico y fenoles en orina de trabajadores con exposición laboral de imprentas del Centro Comercial Lima, Cercado de Lima(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-05-25) Olivera Cueva, Carlos Eduardo; Ramos Jaco, Antonio GuillermoIn this study, we identified the levels of phenols and hippuric acid in the urine of 40 workers employed in printing presses in Cercado de Lima. These workers frequently use organic solvents such as benzene and toluene in concentrations ranging from 1% to 3%. The quantification of total phenols was performed using the spectrophotometric method of Banfi and Marenzi, and hippuric acid was quantified using the Weichselbaum and Probstein titration method. The average of total phenols found was 222.35 mg/L, and hippuric acid was 2.048 g/L. These values indicate exposure to both benzene and toluene, as they exceed the reference values in urine given by the WHO (75 mg/L for phenols and 0.4 to 1.4 g/L for hippuric acid). The toxicological studies were conducted in the toxicology and legal chemistry laboratory of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry at Norbert Wiener University.
