Publicación Acceso abierto Consumo de Bixa Orellana y su relación con la hipertrofia prostática benigna en pacientes que acuden a la Botica Palacios, en Moyobamba, San Martin 2025(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2025-09-10) Flores Estela, Oferlinda; Guevara Infante, Yessica Jhudy; Ñañez del Pino, DanielThe purpose of this study was to assess the consumption of Bixa orellana and benign prostatic disease among clients served at Botica Palacios, located in Moyobamba, San Martín, in 2025. The study was conducted cross-sectionally and correlationally, with a basic, quantitative approach that did not include experimentation. The sample, composed of 179 randomly selected individuals from a total of 335 men with BPH and over 40 years of age, was the community under study. For the research, a structured survey was used, consisting of two sections: one focused on sociodemographic data and consumption of the plant. The effects demonstrated a positive and statistically significant correlation between general consumption of Bixa orellana and BPH (rho = 0.690; p < 0.001). In addition, weak connections were found with specific dimensions such as the area used, the method of preparation, the duration and frequency of consumption, as well as the duration and severity of symptoms. It is concluded that, although the plant is frequently used in traditional practice, its consumption does not guarantee clear clinical benefits against BPH, making it necessary to continue with longitudinal research and clinical trials that evaluate its possible therapeutic effects.
