Ítem Acceso abierto Erosive Effect of Two Over-the-Counter Home Whitening Products on the market on enamel microhardness, In Vitro study(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-05-22) Briceño Oliveros, Crystel Milena; Vilchez Bellido, DinaObjective: To evaluate the erosive effect of two over-the-counter home whitening products on enamel microhardness in vitro. Material and Method: The study was experimental, using 40 bovine teeth, divided into four groups according to the whitening product used: 20 MINUTES DENTAL WHITE, DAZZLING WHITE, POLA LUMINATE SDI (6% hydrogen peroxide, positive control), and saline solution (negative control). Enamel microhardness was assessed in vitro using the Vickers test before exposure, at 24 hours, and at 7 days. Results: There was a greater reduction in enamel microhardness after the application of the whitening products, with the greatest effect at 7 days observed with the 20 MINUTES DENTAL WHITE product (from 319.94 to 282.48 Kg/mm²), followed by DAZZLING WHITE (from 332.74 to 300.02 Kg/mm²) and POLA LUMINATE SDI (from 325.31 to 301.34 Kg/mm²), with statistically significant differences between before and after exposure to the products (p<0.05). Conclusions: There was an erosive effect of the home whitening products on enamel microhardness in vitro, which increased with the exposure time.Ítem Acceso abierto Pigmentation of teeth by immersion in artificial chicha morada after whitening with 35% hydrogen peroxide(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-07-05) Ibarra Costas, Robert Virgilio; Girano Castaños, Jorge AlbertoObjective: To determine the pigmentation of dental pieces immersed in artificial chicha morada after bleaching with 35% hydrogen peroxide. Materials and Methods: This study was experimental, prospective, longitudinal, and descriptive. The sample consisted of 48 extracted human teeth meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The sample size was determined using the formula for estimating proportions for a finite population (FISTERRA formula for quantitative variables). Each tooth underwent a bleaching process with 35% hydrogen peroxide, followed by immersion in artificial chicha morada for 30 minutes over 28 days. A database of color changes was created using a spectrophotometer. Results: In the control group (immersed in distilled water), the average luminosity range decreased from 88.30 to 83.41 over the bleaching and 28-day treatment period. In the treated group (immersed in artificial chicha morada), the average luminosity range decreased from 89.30 to 83.87 during the same period. Conclusions: A decreasing trend in luminosity was observed in both groups. The decrease occurred earlier in the treated group; however, by the end of the study, the control group reached similar luminosity levels as the treated group. The differences between the two groups were not statistically significant.Ítem Acceso abierto Whitening effect with 35% hydrogen peroxide and 35% carbamide peroxide on tooth enamel microhardness, in vitro, 2019(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-02-11) Valle Buendia, Cris Karen; Girano Castaños, Jorge AlbertoObjective: The objective of this experimental research work is to determine and compare the whitening effect of hydrogen peroxide at 35% and carbamide peroxide at 35% on enamel microhardness when subjected to the action of these whitening agents. A total of 51 dental samples were used, divided into 3 groups: 1 control group immersed in isotonic saline solution and 2 experimental groups subjected to the whitening agents according to the manufacturer's instructions. The enamel microhardness was measured using a Vickers durometer, considering the microhardness values of the enamel before and after being subjected to the whitening agents. The statistical test used in this study was the student t-test, which showed a highly significant difference (p<0.05) between the enamel microhardness values before and after exposure to the whitening agents. It was also observed that there is a greater decrease in enamel microhardness when samples are exposed to hydrogen peroxide at 35% compared to samples subjected to carbamide peroxide at 35%.
