Comparison of dimensional changes and roughness between two marks of conventional alginates and two marks of alginates with silicone particles according to elapsed time

The objective of this study was to compare the dimensional change and roughness between two brands of conventional alginates and two brands of silicone particle alginates over time. The methodology used in this study was experimental, prospective, longitudinal, and quantitative. The sample consisted of 60 models of impressions taken with conventional alginates Zetalgin and Hygedent and silicone particle alginates Neocolloid and Hygedent 100. For each group of alginates, 5, 15, and 30 minutes post-impression were considered for the corresponding pouring. A master model was used for all impressions to achieve homogeneous samples. After the impressions were taken, they were measured using a digital caliper for greater accuracy and a digital profilometer. A data collection sheet was used as the instrument, employing the observation technique. The Shapiro-Wilk test was used, followed by the Mann-Whitney U test and Student's t-test to determine if there were differences in dimensional stability and roughness. The results showed that regarding dimensional changes over time, no significant differences were found at 5 and 15 minutes (p > 0.05), but significant differences were found at 30 minutes (p < 0.05). Regarding roughness over time, no significant differences were found at 5, 15, and 30 minutes (p > 0.05).
