Ítem Acceso abierto Quality Parameters of Platelet Concentrates Obtained by Leukocyte-Platelet Layer at Alberto Sabogal Sologuren Hospital, 2018(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-06-19) Alvarez Trujillo, Teresa; Cueva Tolentino, Magdalena Macaria; Paredes Arrascue, Jose AntonioThe objective was to determine the compliance with quality parameters of platelet concentrates obtained by the leukocyte platelet layer method." Material and Methods: This is an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study determining the compliance with quality parameters such as pH, volume, swirl phenomenon, storage temperature, platelet count, residual leukocyte count, and microbiological study of platelet concentrates. Random sampling with a 95% confidence level resulted in a sample size of 384 platelet concentrates. Results: 50.8% of the platelet concentrates met the optimal platelet count, and other parameters were met as follows: 90.1% for plasma volume, 99.5% for required pH, 97.1% for the swirl phenomenon, and 100% for residual leukocyte count and microbiological control. Conclusions and Recommendations: It was concluded that platelet concentrates meet quality parameters for plasma volume, pH, residual leukocyte count, swirl phenomenon, and microbiological control. The quality parameter not meeting the established requirement was platelet count. Therefore, it is recommended to monitor and evaluate compliance with quality standards by standardizing the processes in the extraction, production, and storage of platelet concentrates.
