Ítem Acceso abierto In vitro antibacterial effect of chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla l) in essential oil and infusion on Streptococcus mutans(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-12-07) Gomero Saenz, Nelson Ricardo; Vilchez Bellido, DinaChamomile (Matricaria chamomilla L) has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, analgesic, and bacteriostatic properties that could help control oral microorganisms such as Streptococcus mutans. The objective of this research was to determine the in vitro antibacterial effect of chamomile, in essential oil and infusion, on Streptococcus mutans. The experimental study used the Kirby Bauer technique, which involves depositing antibiotic-impregnated discs containing chamomile essential oil (35%), chamomile infusion (20%), chlorhexidine 0.12% (positive control group), and distilled water (negative control group) on blood agar plates inoculated with Streptococcus mutans ATCC 25175 (n=44 Petri dishes, 11 for each tested substance), evaluating the formation of an inhibition zone. Descriptive and inferential statistics were performed (p ≤ 0.05 considered significant). The results showed that chamomile essential oil exhibited an antibacterial effect on Streptococcus mutans, unlike chamomile infusion, which showed no effect. The mean inhibition zones were 7.15 mm for chamomile essential oil (Matricaria chamomilla L) and 25.09 mm for chlorhexidine, after 48 hours of incubation. It was concluded that chamomile essential oil exhibited an antibacterial effect on Streptococcus mutans.Ítem Acceso abierto Relationship between protein intake and sarcopenia in noninstitutionalized elderly people of the Manzanilla Service Center 2017(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-08-10) Caballero Zavala, Elena Ingred; Cruz Antallaca, Nestor; Mauricio Alza, Saby MarisolThis research aimed to determine the relationship between the consumption of proteins of high biological value and sarcopenia in non-institutionalized older adults who attended a community service center. Cross-sectional, non-experimental, descriptive, correlational study, n= 21 older adults. It was found that six (6) cases of the 21 older adults showed inadequate protein consumption. Furthermore, it was shown that there is a correlation between sarcopenia and the consumption of protein of animal origin. Point biserial coefficient: 0.1998. It is necessary to assess the protein consumption of the elderly in order to avoid weight loss that leads to sarcopenia, diseases and poor quality of life.
