Solvent efficacy of Citrus paradisi oil vs. Citrus lemon oil on endodontic gutta-percha - in vitro study in Lima, 2022

This academic work aimed to compare the dissolving effectiveness of Citrus Paradisi oil and Citrus Limón oil on endodontic gutta-percha, Lima, 2023. The research was conducted using an analytical method, with a quantitative approach, applied type, and a prospective in-vitro experimental longitudinal design. The population consisted of 135 gutta-percha cones, divided into copper containers grouped in 3 (45 per group), subdivided into groups of 15 by exposure time (2, 5, and 10 minutes); the sample was 80. The technique was observation, instrumented by an observation sheet, validated by expert judgment. The cones of gutta-percha N° 80 with a taper of 0.2mm were immersed in the evaluated oils in copper tubes with a diameter of 3mm, cut to 5mm in height. The weight was measured with a digital balance after drying for 24 hours. The data collected were digitized in Excel and processed by IBM SPSS, v24. It was found that the normality of the sample varied in some cases, so non-parametric analysis was used. Significant differences were found in the dissolution capacity of the gutta-percha between the evaluated oils after 10 minutes of exposure, but not after 2 and 5 minutes. It was concluded that there is a significant difference between the oils in terms of their effectiveness on endodontic gutta-percha. It is recommended to conduct further research with other brands of oils to corroborate the results.
