Research work: Efficacy of three commercial mouthwashes in reducing the level of halitosis in patients with orthodontic treatment at the Expert Dent specialized dental clinic, Lima 2021.

The objective of this research was to evaluate the efficacy of three commercial mouthwashes in reducing halitosis levels in patients with orthodontic treatment at the Expert Dent Specialized Dental Clinic, Lima 2021. This study was observational, experimental, and longitudinal. The sample consisted of 75 orthodontic patients at the Expert Dent Specialized Dental Clinic, who were randomly divided into three groups, each assigned a specific mouthwash. Halitosis levels were measured using a halimeter before using the mouthwash, and then again after 30 and 60 minutes of using the mouthwash. The results determined that all three mouthwashes were effective in reducing halitosis levels in orthodontic patients; however, the most effective mouthwash was HALITA, with 32% of patients showing strong or very strong halitosis levels before using the mouthwash. After 30 and 60 minutes, the percentage of patients in this category was reduced to 0%. This was followed by COLGATE PLAX SOFT MINT, where 48% of patients initially had strong or very strong halitosis levels, which decreased to 12% after 30 and 60 minutes. Finally, LISTERINE TOTAL CARE showed that 48% of patients initially had strong or very strong halitosis levels, which decreased to 20% after 30 minutes and 32% after 60 minutes. The study concluded that all three mouthwashes were effective in reducing halitosis levels in patients with orthodontic treatment at the Expert Dent Specialized Dental Clinic, Lima 2021.
