A descriptive, observational, longitudinal, and retrospective study of pregnant women with overweight and obesity. The population consisted of medical records of pregnant women diagnosed with obesity and overweight treated at Hospital Hipólito Unanue, with 1,641 cases documented. A total of 330 medical records were included for the year 2019. The sociodemographic characteristics of pregnant women with obesity and overweight were as follows: ages 30-35 years and 25-29 years (27%-31.5%), civil status cohabiting (82.0%-66.3%), secondary education (61.8%-68.5%), housewives (78.4%-79.8%), coastal origin (83.1%-77.5%), and sufficient prenatal care (49.4%-75.3%). Maternal complications significantly associated with obesity were gestational diabetes (p=0.016) and preeclampsia (p=0.014), being more frequent in obese women than in overweight women. The main perinatal complication was fetal macrosomia (p=0.001), which was more frequent in obese women than in overweight women. Maternal and perinatal complications in obese pregnant women were gestational diabetes and preeclampsia; similarly, fetal macrosomia was more frequent in obese women than in overweight women.
