Objective: To determine the level of knowledge about contraception associated with male participation in the selection of contraceptive methods at the Santa Anita Maternal and Child Center, 2017. Materials and Methods: This was a prospective, observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study. The population consisted of young and adult men aged 19 to 59 years, attended at the Santa Anita Maternal and Child Center between June and July 2017. The technique used was interviews, with prior verbal informed consent, and the instrument was a structured and validated questionnaire exclusively for the study. Results: The study population was aged 20 to 24 years, 30.6% had completed secondary education, and the most frequent occupation was students (23.5%). The level of knowledge about contraceptive methods among men was regular (47.3%), good (46.6%), and only 6.1% had poor knowledge. Partial participation in the choice of contraceptive methods was 65%, with less than 2% reporting no participation. Complete participation was 68.2% in the group with regular and good knowledge (38.5% and 29.7%, respectively). However, in the group with poor knowledge, the frequency of complete participation was significantly lower (31.8%). Conclusions: The frequency of male participation was notably higher in the group with regular to good knowledge, favoring an association between knowledge level and male participation.

Adolescent pregnancy and its relationship with low knowledge of contraceptive methods
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-02-10) Palomino Diaz, Leydy Fanny; Marín Guevara, Leticia Gloria
The objective of this research was to determine the scientific evidence from observational studies related to adolescent pregnancies and their relationship with low knowledge of contraceptive methods. This study is a quantitative publication review. Observational studies, descriptive, systematic reviews, quasi-experimental, cross-sectional, ecological, case-control, and retrospective studies were selected, found in the PubMed, REDIB, Lilacs, Dialnet, and Google Scholar databases from 2015 to 2021. A total of 30 scientific articles were considered for this study. According to the findings from the reviewed articles, low knowledge about contraceptive methods is related to adolescent pregnancies, as lacking knowledge about contraceptive methods increases the probability of experiencing a pregnancy by 75%. Furthermore, sexual education is an effective strategy to decrease the adolescent pregnancy rate. Low knowledge of contraceptive methods is related to adolescent pregnancies.

Early pregnancy and the level of knowledge about contraceptive methods
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-02-03) Vera Aylas, Erica Jasmín; Reyes Serrano, Bertha Nathaly
Objective: To analyze the scientific studies related to early pregnancy and the level of knowledge about contraceptive methods in adolescents over the last 6 years. Materials and methods: A systematic observational and retrospective review was conducted on 55 national and international articles and scientific studies in all languages on the subject. The sample consisted of 37 articles that met the inclusion criteria, and the GRADE method was employed. Specialized search engines such as PubMed, Scielo, Google Scholar, Dialnet, Cochrane, Science Direct, and Alicia Concytec were used. Results: 27% (10) of the articles addressed the causes of early pregnancy, 27% (10) discussed the consequences of early pregnancy, 27% (10) focused on the level of knowledge regarding adolescents' attitudes toward contraceptive methods, and 19% (7) discussed the level of knowledge regarding the use of contraceptive methods in adolescents. Conclusions: In the variable causes of early pregnancy, the main factors were sociodemographic and economic factors, as well as access to healthcare services. The main consequences were school dropout and maternal-neonatal complications. In terms of knowledge, it was identified that older adolescents had greater knowledge and better attitudes toward contraceptive methods. Condoms were the most known and/or used method by adolescents.

Relationship between gender-based violence in women and the use of contraceptive methods.
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-03-02) Anicama Queneche, Blanca Isidora; Benites Vidal, Elvira Soledad
Results: Thirty scientific publications were analyzed, resulting in 24 (80%) original articles establishing a significant association between gender-based violence in women and the use of contraceptive methods. On the other hand, 6 (20%) articles concluded that there was no significant association between gender-based violence in women and contraceptive use. Eight cohort design articles were studied, of which 87% established a significant association and 13% established no significant association between gender-based violence in women and contraceptive use. Similarly, 22 cross-sectional design articles were analyzed, of which 77% found a significant association and 23% found no significant association between gender-based violence in women and contraceptive use.

Relationship between periodontitis and contraceptive method in patients of the gynecology-obstetrics service of the Hipólito Unanue National Hospital in 2019.
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2020-08-15) Huayascachi Huamán, Nancy; Girano Castaños, Jorge Alberto
The use of contraceptives causes hormonal changes, which can alter estrogen and progesterone receptors. These changes may affect periodontal conditions, leading to a study aimed at determining the relationship between periodontitis and contraceptive methods in patients from the Gynecology Obstetrics service at the National Hospital Hipólito Unanue in 2019. The research was descriptive, prospective, and cross-sectional. It was found that most women using contraceptives utilized injectable methods, and the majority of these women had some form of periodontitis. Among contraceptive users, those using oral methods more frequently experienced periodontitis compared to those using injectables. Additionally, when relating the use of contraceptives to periodontitis, a difference in the proportion of women by periodontitis variable groups was found, but this difference was not statistically significant (p=0.543 (p>0.05)). The conclusion was that the use of contraceptives was not significantly statistically associated with the presence of periodontitis in the studied individuals.

Sexual Behavior of Adolescents from 15 to 19 years old Associated with the use of Contraceptive Methods
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-08-26) Pariona Quispe, Guisella Alicia; Arone Palomino, Susana Filomena
Objective: To determine and analyze the scientific evidence on the sexual behavior of adolescents aged 15 to 19 years associated with the use of contraceptive methods. Methodology: A systematic review was conducted using virtual libraries such as Google Scholar, Redib, Redalyc, and Scielo. Results: A total of 40 articles were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Most of the articles (37) were from Latin America and the Caribbean, while only 3 were from Spain. It was evident that the main factor affecting adolescents' sexual behavior is misinformation. Additionally, many studies agree that adolescents start their sexual lives at a very early age due to social pressure, curiosity, parental issues, and more. Conclusion: Most of the analyzed articles do not show a significant relationship between the sexual behavior of adolescents aged 15 to 19 years and the use of contraceptive methods. It is concluded that adolescents lack knowledge or hold incorrect information about contraceptive methods, putting their sexual health at risk, including exposure to sexually transmitted diseases or unintended pregnancies.

(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-05-12) Gabriel Mendoza, Elizabeth Olga; Caldas Herrera, Maria Evelina
Objective: To identify evidence regarding the sociocultural barriers related to women of reproductive age concerning the use of contraceptive methods according to scientific evidence. Materials and methods: The study was a qualitative systematic review with a non-experimental design. The population consisted of 93 articles published in virtual databases: Scielo, Pubmed, Lilacs, and Elsevier, of which 30 articles were used as the study sample. Results: The social barriers related to the use of contraceptive methods were early initiation of sexual activity (33%), with 17% of the studies reporting cohabiting marital status, and 11% of studies mentioning factors like being under 19 years of age, social networks, lack of information, influence from friends, and partner pressure. The cultural barriers related to the use of contraceptive methods were that 41% of the studies mentioned secondary education level, 12% reported beliefs regarding weight gain, and 12% mentioned fear of cancer. Other cultural barriers included fear of abortion, sterility, partner abandonment, family beliefs, and religion, each reported by 6% of the studies. Conclusion: There is scientific evidence showing the existence of social and cultural barriers related to the use of contraceptive methods in women of reproductive age.
