A descriptive, cross-sectional, retrospective, and quantitative study was conducted. The requests for cardiac markers in the Emergency Service of the National Hospital were evaluated without restrictions, and the exams requested were total CK, CK MB, LDH, Troponins, and proBNP. Of the 1,700 requests, the following results were obtained: CK T 30.56%, CK MB 30.46%, LDH 33.93%, Troponin 4.63%, and proBNP 0.42%. Normal and pathological result frequencies were also obtained. Conclusion: There is a high demand for cardiac marker results in the emergency service of a National Hospital, with normal values being more common than pathological ones, indicating that doctors request cardiac marker tests for any signs or symptoms of cardiac discomfort.
