Ítem Acceso abierto Hospital anxiety and depression in family members of patients admitted to medical and surgical ICUs at a naval medical center, Callao – 2020(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2020-10-11) Palomino Tovar, Dario Nestor; Uturunco Vera, Milagros LizbethCritical illness requiring specialized care in an intensive care unit (ICU) is a heartbreaking event that affects patients and their families. Admission to an ICU is stressful and constitutes a traumatic experience for family members that causes a disruption in their lives and requires continuous adjustments on their part as the patient's condition changes. If a family member enters critical care, it causes the family to have anxiety, anguish, stress, negative feelings, fear in the hospital area, as a consequence of the lack of contact with their family member and the fear of what may happen. Objective: The objective of the study is to determine hospital anxiety and depression in relatives of patients admitted to Medical and Surgical Intensive Care. Material and methods: The present study is quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional. The design is non-experimental because the variable will not be deliberately manipulated. For the data collection process, the survey technique will be used. The instrument considered for the present study is the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS-14) developed by Zigmond and Snaith in 1983, since it proves to be a reliable instrument that serves to detect emotional discomfort such as such as anxiety and depression in individuals.
