Ítem Acceso abierto Relationship between psycho-emotional states and pain perception in patients receiving treatment at the dental clinic of the Norbert Wiener University(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-04-12) Moreno Prieto, Romina Scarlet; Sotomayor León, Gino AurelioThe sample consisted of 385 patients who received dental treatment at the University Norbert Wiener Dental Clinic from May to July 2022. Each patient was explained the entire procedure and the implications of the research and signed an informed consent. Before the dental treatment, the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21) questionnaire was administered. After the treatment, the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) was completed. Method: Once completed, the data were processed using Stata v.17, and tables were created in Excel for descriptive analysis with tables and graphs. Results: The study found that a higher number of patients presented depression before the dental treatment (96.88%). It was also found that the age group of 18 to 28 years showed the highest levels of mild anxiety and mild stress related to pain. The age group of 29 to 40 years showed the highest level of mild depression related to pain. Males showed the highest levels of depression and stress related to pain, while females showed higher levels of anxiety and mild stress related to pain. Conclusion: A relationship exists between psychoemotional states and pain perception, as patients who showed normal levels of depression, anxiety, and stress perceived pain as mild (34.29%-30.39%-32.73%).
