Ítem Acceso abierto Risk of dental Caries evaluated with the simplified Cariogram program and modified Cambra in children aged 3 to 5 years old private educational institution in the district of Chorrillos. Lima - 2019(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-12-11) Mariluz Chicnes, Shirley Mercedes; Garavito Chang, Enna LucilaIdentifying the risk factors for dental caries is an important measure that contributes to a better understanding of the patient's cariogenic profile. The Cariogram® program and CAMBRA provide this analysis; however, protocols have been suggested to simplify the method. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between the risk of dental caries evaluated with the simplified Cariogram program and the modified CAMBRA in children aged 3 to 5 years. A total of 105 preschool children aged 3 to 5 years and their respective parents were examined to assess caries experience and the Oral Hygiene Index. A survey was applied to the caregivers of each child, including questions related to their daily diet, fluoride exposure, medical history, and socioeconomic condition. The relationship between the dental caries risk evaluated with the modified CAMBRA and the simplified Cariogram according to Fisher's test (p=0.000) showed a significant difference between the two protocols. The majority of subjects with a low risk in the modified CAMBRA had a high risk of dental caries in the simplified Cariogram. A high level of dental caries risk was identified using both protocols, due to the greater frequency in the diet sector of the simplified Cariogram and the disease indicators of the modified CAMBRA. The use of the simplified Cariogram and the modified CAMBRA identified a high risk of dental caries. In conclusion, to prevent further carious lesions in the future, parents and/or caregivers should reduce highly cariogenic diets.
