Ítem Acceso abierto Management of the oncological patient in the dental office and knowledge about oral cancer in students of the Norbert Wiener University(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-07-04) Medina Matos, Melani Beatriz; Morante Maturana, Sara AngelicaKnowledge of oral cancer among dental professionals is crucial for accurate diagnosis, which they can provide when patients attend dental consultations, whether for routine checkups or specialized exams. Oral cancer is a disease that is difficult to detect in its early stages, which is when the patient has the best chance of successful oncological treatment. Globally, cancer represents a pathology with considerable consequences, considering that it still lacks an effective cure, particularly in advanced stages. It also leads to economic consequences, creating unfavorable effects in various countries, especially in less-developed ones. Oral cancer accounts for two to four percent of all cancer diagnoses, with ninety percent of these cases being squamous cell carcinoma, which constitutes ninety percent of all malignant neoplasms. It is a non-communicable, chronic disease with a high burden and a projected increase in the coming years.
