Objective: To determine a selective technique by Thin-Layer Chromatography (TLC) for the identification of benzodiazepines. Method: Thin-layer chromatography was employed as a selective identification technique for benzodiazepines. Urine samples were collected from 26 healthy volunteers who had previously been administered benzodiazepines. The analysis was conducted in the toxicology laboratories of Norbert Wiener University and the National University of San Marcos (UNMSM). Results: Thin-layer chromatography tested positive for benzodiazepines and other substances (phenobarbital and phenytoin) in 80% of the urine samples analyzed. It is suggested that confirmatory techniques, such as gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS), be used. Conclusion: Thin-layer chromatography was determined to be a highly sensitive technique, but not specific for benzodiazepines.Publicación Acceso abierto Efecto sedante y ansiolítico del extracto etanólico de la corteza de Brunfelsia grandiflora D. Don ("chiric sanango") in albino mice. Methods: Solubility testing and preliminary qualitative analysis were conducted to identify secondary metabolites. To demonstrate the sedative effect, the hole-board test method was used on 40 albino mice at different doses (60, 80, and 100 mg/kg) orally (VO) compared to diazepam at 10 mg/kg, with a 5-minute evaluation period. The anxiolytic effect was assessed using the marble-burying method on 40 albino mice at doses of 5, 10, and 15 mg/kg orally (VO), also compared to diazepam at 10 mg/kg, with a 30-minute evaluation period. Results: The ethanolic extract of the bark of Brunfelsia grandiflora D. Don ("chiric sanango") at a concentration of 100 mg/kg exhibited a sedative effect comparable to the standard diazepam at 10 mg/kg, with an inhibitory effect of 70.6%. Additionally, the ethanolic extract at a concentration of 15 mg/kg demonstrated a greater anxiolytic effect than the standard diazepam at 10 mg/kg, with an inhibitory effect of 80.1%. Conclusion: The sedative and anxiolytic effects of the ethanolic extract of the bark of Brunfelsia grandiflora D. Don ("chiric sanango") were demonstrated in albino mice.
