Beneficio económico en la devolución de medicamentos y dispositivos médicos en el sistema de distribución de dosis unitaria del Hospital Nacional Hipólito Unanue. Lima 2021
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-03-19) Ortega Galarza, Carmen Edith; Caldas Herrera, Emma
The return of medications and medical devices is an indicator of the Unit Dose Drug Dispensing System (UDDDS). This system is a safe, effective method for the user that achieves maximum efficiency, and the returns generate savings. Therefore, it is important for the Pharmacist, in coordination with licensed nurses, to control products not administered to the patient for various reasons. Thus, the OBJECTIVE of this research was to evaluate the economic benefit in the return of medications and medical devices within the UDDDS of the HNHU. Method: The research used the deductive method, a quantitative approach, an applied type, and an observational, cross-sectional, non-experimental design conducted from January to December 2021. The sample consisted of 465 return forms for medications and medical devices, selected via simple random probabilistic sampling. RESULTS: The value was determined by 8,614 (91.55%) medications and 1,809 (8.45%) medical devices returned through the UDDDS. The total number of units across all dimensions was 10,423 units, with a total value of S/ 44,347.96. CONCLUSIONS: During the study period, an economic benefit was demonstrated for the Institution and the patient, corresponding to 7.75% of the total returns of medications and medical devices according to the UDDDS.

The present research aimed to evaluate the functioning of the Unit Dose Drug Distribution System (UDDDS) in the Pharmacy Service of Huaycán Hospital during the period September 2017 to February 2018. An observational, descriptive, and retrospective study was conducted, which included patients within the aforementioned period. Clinical records, pharmacotherapeutic follow-up logs, reports of dispensing errors within the UDDDS, reports of adverse drug reactions, records of drug returns, and statistical sources were reviewed. The number of patients under pharmacotherapeutic follow-up was identified, with the highest percentage recorded in September 2017 (3.7%). The determination of suspected adverse drug reactions showed the highest incidence (86.7%) in December 2017. The number of dispensing errors recorded was 0.96% during September, where most involved only one error per prescription detected by the UDDDS. Furthermore, 9.22% of patients under pharmacotherapeutic follow-up presented drug-related problems. During the study period, a cost saving of 5.37% was observed. It was concluded that the evaluation of the study population demonstrated reliability and completeness, making it possible to assess the functioning of the UDDDS.

The present research work, entitled Indicators of the Unit Dose Drug Distribution System (UDDDS) at Clínica Internacional, Lima site, July–December 2012, aims to determine the indicators of the Unit Dose Drug Distribution System (UDDDS), considering as the study population the hospitalized patients served through this system, by analyzing the information generated and stored by the service in its unit dose database. Using an observational, descriptive, prospective, and longitudinal research design with data from July to December 2012, the integrity, accuracy, and suitability of the UDDDS database were evaluated, and a descriptive statistical analysis was constructed, in percentage terms, with the indicators that could be obtained, resulting in the following: - Coverage indicator: 90.43%. - Pharmacotherapeutic follow-up indicator: 2.6%. - Drug-related problems (DRP) indicator: 7.1%. - Pharmaceutical interventions indicator: 100%. - Reported safety adverse drug reactions (ADR) indicator: 10 cases. - Dispensing errors indicator: 2.4%. It is concluded that the evaluation of the database demonstrated integrity and accuracy, and it was possible to construct 6 of the 8 indicators established in the Technical Standard and proposed in the project, since two of them could not be assessed due to lack of access (either by restrictions or by proprietary rights of the clinic as a hospital center) to the necessary data.
