Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of ibuprofen in achieving successful pharmacological closure of the patent ductus arteriosus in premature newborns(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-01-06) Rojas Delgado, Jeniffer Liseth; Melgarejo Aguirre, Lizet Crístina; Bonilla Asalde, César AntonioThe total number of articles analyzed affirms the effectiveness of ibuprofen in achieving closure of patent ductus arteriosus in premature newborns. Which concludes that 90% of the studies show that Ibuprofen was effective in achieving successful pharmacological closure of the patent ductus arteriosus in premature newborns, presenting fewer side effects, and 10% show that Ibuprofen is not effective in achieving successful pharmacological closure of patent ductus arteriosus in premature newborns treated in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.Ítem Acceso abierto Efficacy of acetaminophen in promoting closure of patent ductus arteriosus in premature newborns(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2017-11-12) Celis Perez, Rosario Del Pilar; Espil Sanchez, Sarita Milena; Bonilla Asalde, César AntonioMaterials and methods: Observational and retrospective systematic review. The search was restricted to full-text articles, and the selected articles were subjected to a critical reading using the GRADE system to assign the strength of recommendation. A total of 10 articles were selected, with 30% (3) from Turkey, 20% (2) from Italy, and 10% (1) each from Ecuador, Mexico, India, Ireland, and China, respectively. The majority of the studies reviewed were randomized controlled trials, accounting for 80%, primarily from Turkey, India, Ireland, China, Italy, Mexico, and Ecuador. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses were found from Italy, Turkey, and China, accounting for 20%. Results: 30% (3) of the articles showed that the safety profiles of paracetamol and ibuprofen are similar, 20% (2) of the articles demonstrated that paracetamol can be a medical alternative in the treatment of ductus closure. 80% (8) of the articles showed that intravenous paracetamol, compared to intravenous indomethacin, is more effective in promoting closure of the patent ductus arteriosus in premature newborns. Conclusions: The reviewed studies showed that the use of acetaminophen is a promising and safe alternative for the treatment of patent ductus arteriosus in premature newborns.
