Ítem Acceso abierto Presence of subprosthetic stomatitis in elderly adults with total prostheses at the Canevaro Hostel, Lima 2018(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-06-19) Laguna Pino, Marycielo Yandira; Lujan Larreategui, Haydee GiovannaThe purpose of this study was to determine the presence of denture stomatitis in elderly patients wearing complete dentures at the Canevaro Shelter, Lima-2018. In this study, 96 denture wearers were examined, where a visual examination was conducted using basic diagnostic tools to locate the lesion area, the duration of prosthesis use, and the condition of the prosthesis. The results were as follows: the total presence of denture stomatitis was 100%; the most common grade was type II with 58.3%, followed by grade I with 29.2% and 12.5% with grade III. Lesions were more frequent in individuals who wore complete dentures for over 5 years. It was concluded that the high frequency of patients with various degrees of denture stomatitis is associated with factors such as the condition of the prostheses and the duration of use, significantly affecting the oral health of the patients studied.
