Ítem Acceso abierto Frequency of periodontal disease in patients aged 20 to 70 years served in the periodontics area of the Central Military Hospital during the year 2016(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-06-24) Quiroz Torres, Williams Alejandro; Aguirre Morales, Anita KoriThe objective of this study was to determine the frequency of periodontal disease in patients aged 20 to 70 years treated in the periodontics area of the Central Military Hospital during the year 2016. This research, with a cross-sectional and descriptive design, analyzed the medical records of 244 individuals aged 20 to 70 who met the inclusion criteria and were treated in the periodontics area of the Central Military Hospital in Lima. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS Statistics 20 with a 95% confidence interval and a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that the frequency of periodontal disease in patients aged 20 to 70 treated in the periodontics area of the Central Military Hospital was as follows: chronic periodontitis with 50%, followed by acute gingivitis with 37%. Regarding age range, 57% of cases occurred between 20 and 49 years of age, with males being the predominant sex at 60%. Methodology: The study employed a quantitative approach, with a basic, descriptive-correlational design. A sample of 156 chronic kidney disease patients receiving care in the Dentistry department was selected through simple random sampling. Patient information was recorded, including age, gender, duration of disease, duration of hemodialysis treatment, and periodontal disease status. Results: A strong positive correlation (0.835**) was found between periodontal disease and chronic kidney disease (stages 4 and 5). Additionally, a moderate correlation (0.415**) was observed between periodontal disease and the duration of hemodialysis treatment. The null hypothesis was accepted, as it was determined that there is no relationship between periodontal disease and the duration of chronic kidney disease.
