Ítem Acceso abierto Efficacy of Probiotics for the Prevention of Diarrhea in Cancer Patients Undergoing Chemoradiation(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-09-22) Jimenez Barrenechea, Marcia Maricruz; Quispe Lucana, Gianina Raquel; Matta Solis, Eduardo PercyObjective: Systematize the evidence regarding the effectiveness of probiotics for the prevention of diarrhea in cancer patients undergoing chemoradiation. Materials and Methods: The design used was a retrospective and observational systematic review, which uses a specific method to summarize and synthesize the results of scientific articles. The population was made up of 19 scientific articles whose publication was in scientific databases. Selection criteria were established such as age, degree and quality of evidence, etc., through which 10 articles that represent the sample were selected. Results: In the 10 selected articles, 30% (n=3) were carried out in China, 10% (n=1) in the United Kingdom, 10% (n=1) in Canada, 10% (n=1) in Spain , 10%(n=1) in Slovakia, 10% (n=1) in Germany, 10%(n=1) in Scotland and 10%(n=1) in Thailand. Of which 30% (n=3) were Systematic Review studies, 30% (n=3) Meta-analysis and systematic review, 40% (n=4) Randomized Controlled Trial. Of 10 pieces of evidence, 100% (n=10) affirm that probiotics prevent diarrhea in cancer patients undergoing chemoradiation. Conclusions: There is high-quality evidence on the effectiveness of probiotics in preventing diarrhea in cancer patients undergoing chemoradiation.
