Ítem Acceso abierto (Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2017) Colpa Zamora, Max Dickson; Cupé Araujo, Ana CeciliaThe aim of this study is to determine the inhibitory effect of the essential oils of Origanum vulgare and Mentha piperita in comparison to nystatin against Candida albicans strains. Eighty Petri dishes were prepared with Sabouraud agar and inoculated with Candida albicans strains. The dishes were divided into two parts: 40 dishes for Origanum vulgare and 40 for Mentha piperita. Four wells were created with concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%, one negative control well with distilled water, and one positive control well with Nystatin for each plate, making a total of six wells per Petri dish. The plates were incubated at 37°C, and the inhibition halos were measured at 24 and 48 hours. The data were processed using the statistical test for comparison of means for independent samples. The results concluded that Origanum vulgare exhibited an inhibition halo of 45.73mm and 46.35mm at 24 and 48 hours, respectively, greater than Nystatin, which showed 17.83mm and 18.20mm, and Mentha piperita, which exhibited 18.85mm and 19.88mm, very close to Nystatin, with 19.60mm and 20.30mm.Ítem Acceso abierto Antifungal Effectiveness of Origanum Vulgare Essential Oil on Candida Albicans ATCC 10231(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-01-08) Castillo Fernández, Rosa María; Jacinto Hervias, PedroThe purpose of this research was to determine the antifungal effect of Origanum vulgare essential oil on Candida albicans. Materials and Methods: This was an observational, analytical, and longitudinal study. A total of 135 patients were evaluated, divided into three groups: essential oil, music therapy, and control, with 45 patients in each group. Heart rate and anxiety levels were measured before and after the treatment. Results: In the control group, no significant difference in anxiety levels was found. In the essential oil group, before treatment, 40% had high anxiety, 48.89% had moderate anxiety, and 11.11% had low anxiety. After treatment, high anxiety decreased to 4.44%, moderate anxiety to 15.56%, low anxiety to 46.67%, and 33.33% had no anxiety, showing a significant difference. In the music therapy group, before treatment, 44.44% had high anxiety, 44.4% had moderate anxiety, and 11.11% had low anxiety. After treatment, high anxiety decreased to 6.67%, moderate anxiety to 6.67%, low anxiety to 51.11%, and 35.56% had no anxiety, with a significant difference. The control group showed no significant difference in heart rate. In contrast, the essential oil group showed a heart rate of 88.22 bpm before treatment and 81.33 bpm after treatment, with a significant difference. The music therapy group had a heart rate of 88.24 bpm before treatment and 80.91 bpm after treatment, also with a significant difference. Conclusion: Essential oil and music therapy have an effect on the reduction of anxiety in patients undergoing dental filling treatment in a dental office.
