To systematically analyze the available evidence from studies on the effectiveness of the emergency severity index in triaging patients in the emergency department to ensure the validity and reliability of care. Materials and Methods: The systematic review of 10 scientific articles found on the validity and reliability of the emergency severity index in triaging patients in the emergency department was conducted using the following databases: Mendeley, Scielo, Pubmed, Medline, and Sciencedirect. All articles were analyzed using the GRADE scale to determine their strength and quality of evidence. Results: Of the 10 articles reviewed, 90% (9/10) correspond to meta-analysis studies, and 10% (1/10) are systematic reviews with meta-analysis. Of the 10 articles systematically reviewed, 90% (9/10) demonstrate the effectiveness of the emergency severity index in triaging patients in the emergency department to ensure the validity and reliability of care. However, 10% (1/10) refutes the proposal, citing the subjectivity and inherent variability of its application, which can lead to functional classification failures and a failure to differentiate patients at level 3 of the emergency severity index. Conclusions: Of the 10 articles reviewed, 9 out of 10 demonstrate the effectiveness of the emergency severity index in triaging patients in the emergency department to ensure the validity and reliability of care.
