Effectiveness of bronchodilator administration methods via inhalation compared to nebulization in pediatric patients with asthma attacks
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-02-17) Martinez Capillo, Elizabeth; Valencia Veliz, Melissa Lorena; Bonilla Asalde, César Antonio
Objective: Systematize the evidence on the effectiveness of inhalation bronchodilator administration methods compared to nebulization in pediatric patients with asthma attacks. Methodology: Observational and retrospective systematic review, the search has been restricted to articles with full text, and the selected articles were subjected to a critical reading, using the GRADE evaluation to identify their level of evidence. Results: The systematic review of 10 scientific articles, only 60% affirm that bronchodilators are effective either by inhalation or nebulization, therefore, 40% affirm that the inhalation route is more effective, this was found in the following database data Pubmed, Medline, Elservier, Google Scholar. Conclusions: Of the 10 articles reviewed, 60% (n=6/10) systematic review agree that the method of administering bronchodilators by nebulizer produced results that were not significantly better than inhalers with a spacer chamber in children with asthma attacks. . Inhalers may have some advantages compared to nebulizers for children with acute asthma.

Effectiveness of magnesium sulfate in the treatment of asthma attacks in pediatric patients
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-01-06) Gonzales Cruz, Cinthya Patricia; Chávez Rios, Martina; Pérez Siguas, Rosa Eva
Objectives: Analyze and systematize the evidence on the effectiveness of magnesium sulfate in the treatment of asthmatic attacks in pediatric patients. Material and Methods: Systematic reviews, double-blind randomized trial, articles were analyzed and criticized; Choosing 10 articles where 70% are systematic reviews and 30% double-blind controlled trials; in countries such as 30% China, 20% United Kingdom, 20% USA, 10% Argentina, 10% Canada and 10% Brazil. Results: Of the articles analyzed, 80% stated that magnesium sulfate is effective in the treatment of asthmatic attacks in pediatric patients and 20% did not find a significant improvement in lung function or a decrease in hospital admissions during the asthmatic crisis. Conclusions: It was evident in the scientific articles reviewed that the use of magnesium sulfate during asthma attacks improves lung function and reduces hospital admissions in pediatric patients.

Efficacy of continuous nebulizations with β_agonists in patients with acute asthmatic crisis
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 1905-07-09) Alfaro Mendivil, Nancy; Perez Fernandez, Ricarti Salin; Rivera Lozada de Bonilla, Oriana
Objective: Systematize and analyze the effectiveness of continuous nebulizations with β_agonists in patients with acute asthma attacks. Material and methods: Observational and retrospective systematic review, the search has been restricted to articles with full text, and the selected articles were subjected to a critical reading, using the GRADE method to identify their level of evidence. Results: In the final selection, 10 articles were chosen, systematic reviews, quasi-experimental and case-control studies, and of the total of 10 reviewed articles, 40% (n=4/10) of these show that the effectiveness of Performing nebulizations with β_agonists continuously in patients with acute asthma attacks is positive, especially in cases for the treatment of moderate-severe asthma, it helps with lower administration cost and shorter stay in the emergency room while 60% of the studies analyzed tell us that there is no significant relevance. Conclusions: It is concluded that there is no significant relevance in the effectiveness of continuous nebulizations with β_agonists, since 60% of the studies analyzed support the equivalence of the results of continuous and intermittent nebulization in the treatment of acute asthma.

Factors associated with asthma exacerbations in hospitalized pediatric patients in a Lima hospital, 2024
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-02-22) Aliaga Cáceres, Bellanira Sara; Gonzales Carrillo, Javier José
Introduction: Asthma is considered one of the most prevalent chronic diseases worldwide, with children being particularly vulnerable. Asthma exacerbations, known as asthma attacks, can lead to hospitalization and intensive care, especially in pediatric populations. In Lima, pediatric asthma hospitalizations have shown an increasing trend, highlighting the urgent need to better understand contributing factors. Objective: To identify and analyze factors associated with asthma crises in hospitalized pediatric patients at a Lima hospital in 2023. Methods: Observational retrospective analytical study using electronic medical records from 72 patients divided into cases (asthmatic patients with asthma crises) and controls (asthmatic patients without asthma crises). Results: Significant factors associated with asthma crises included eczema comorbidity (p=0.006, OR=11.66), parental asthma history (p=0.001, OR=6.20), lack of inhaled corticosteroid use (p=0.000, OR=7.33), and fewer than three annual check-ups (p=0.004, OR=4.20). Conclusion: Asthma crises were associated with factors such as eczema comorbidity, parental asthma history, lack of inhaled corticosteroid use, and fewer than three annual outpatient visits.

Factors involved in asthma exacerbations in pediatric patients
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2016) Tafur Portocarrero, Deysy; Valle Grandez, Jackeline; Gómez Gonzales, Walter Edgar
Objective: To establish the factors involved in asthma crises in pediatric patients. Materials and Methods: Systematic reviews are an observational and retrospective research design that synthesizes the results of multiple primary studies. They are a fundamental part of evidence-based nursing due to their rigorous methodology, identifying relevant studies to address specific clinical practice questions. Results: The systematic review of 10 scientific articles on the factors involved in asthma crises in pediatric patients was conducted using studies found in the Lipecs, Lilacs, Scielo, Medline, and Cochrane Plus databases. 90% of these studies were cross-sectional designs, and 10% were cohort studies, with moderate quality evidence. Conclusions: The reviewed scientific articles indicate that the factors involved in asthma crises in pediatric patients include rhinitis, respiratory infections, polluted environments, and tobacco smoke, which increase the symptoms and development of asthma. Additionally, allergic nasal and skin symptoms in childhood are predisposing factors contributing to the development of asthma.
