The objective of this study was to determine the oral hygiene habits and the level of oral hygiene in first-year students of the Dentistry program at Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, Lima 2016. This was an observational, prospective, cross-sectional, and descriptive study. The sample consisted of 60 students aged 19 to 24 years, selected through intentional sampling. An 8-question survey was used to assess oral hygiene habits, and the O'Leary index was employed to determine the level of oral hygiene. These instruments were validated through expert judgment. Regarding oral hygiene habits, the majority of students showed good hygiene habits. However, regarding the level of oral hygiene, 88.9% had poor hygiene, and only 11.1% had adequate oral hygiene. 100% of the students used a toothbrush, 77.8% used toothpaste, 38.9% used dental floss, 33.3% used mouthwash, and 11.1% used a toothpick in their daily oral care. Regarding brushing frequency, 50.0% brushed their teeth three times a day, 48.8% brushed in the morning, afternoon, and night, and 72.2% changed their toothbrush every three months. Oral hygiene habits and levels could improve with the oral health knowledge gained during the professional training of Dentistry students.

This study aimed to determine the level of importance of the UPNW virtual library in the development of scientific research among dental students from the 8th to the 10th semester in Lima, 2023. The study was based on a quantitative, basic approach, using a non-experimental, analytical, observational, cross-sectional, and descriptive design. The sample consisted of 148 students from the aforementioned semesters, who completed a questionnaire. The results showed that there were no significant differences based on gender, while age and academic cycle revealed that as age and academic cycle increased, the perceived level of importance intensified. This was confirmed with a significance level lower than 5%, thus supporting the hypothesis related to these two variables. Additionally, it was found that students accessed the virtual library 4 to 5 times a day. The study concluded that the majority of respondents classified the importance of the UPNW virtual library as "Medium," indicating that they perceive it as a valuable resource, but not essential.

Consumption of cannabis sativa as a risk factor in periodontal health among dental students at a university in Lima, 2023
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-07-11) Jerí Diaz, Mario Alfonso; Chilón Minaya, Lesly Johanna
The purpose of this study was to examine the association between Cannabis Sativa consumption and periodontal health among dental students from a university in Lima, 2023. A quantitative approach was chosen, and a hypothetical-deductive method was applied, using an observational correlational, non-experimental, and cross-sectional research design. The study sample consisted of 324 dental students. The findings revealed that the vast majority of students (71.9%) do not consume Cannabis Sativa and generally have good periodontal health. In contrast, a small group (0.9%) that consumes cannabis also maintains optimal periodontal health, but a slightly higher percentage (3.1%) has a periodontal health rated as regular. The most relevant finding was the discovery of a statistically significant relationship (p < 0.05) between Cannabis Sativa consumption and periodontal health. The reasons behind Cannabis Sativa consumption were explored. Among users, 61.5% claimed to use it for medical reasons and generally presented regular periodontal health. On the other hand, 15.4% consumed it recreationally, and their periodontal health varied between good and regular. Additionally, a significant relationship was found between the frequency of consumption and periodontal health (p < 0.05). However, no significant relationships were identified between the form and duration of Cannabis Sativa consumption and periodontal health (p > 0.05).

family environment and self-assessment of academic performance in dentistry students at norbert wiener private university in times of covid-19; 2021
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-05-05) Alburqueque Altamirano, Elizabeth; Chanamé Marín, Ann Rosemary
The family environment is a space of family tuning that presupposes a degree of communication, living patterns, cohesion, and control conditioned to a family structure, based on the dimensions of the FES Scale by Moos, R. and Trickett (1985). The connection between the family environment and self-assessment of academic achievement was established for students from the Dentistry program at UPNW during the COVID-19 period. A quantitative model was used, and the research was applied through a descriptive design. The study had a correlational, cross-sectional design. An instrument to measure the family climate was applied, and the weighted average of students was obtained. The research sample consisted of 165 students selected through simple probabilistic sampling. According to the collected data, a low inverse statistical association (r = -.004) between the family environment and academic performance was found. However, its statistical significance has a value greater than 0.05, rejecting the hypothesis. It was concluded that the family environment is not associated with the academic performance conditions of Dentistry students at the Universidad Norbert Wiener in 2021.
