Objective: creation and virtual validation of an instrument during the COVID-19 pandemic to assess sugar consumption and frequency in the diet of school children. Materials and methods: This is a descriptive, observational, cross-sectional, and prospective study carried out through the application of an instrument created by the researcher. Results: The instrument was evaluated through expert judgment, with a total result of 0.86 for the Aiken's V analysis. The modified instrument was applied to a group of 30 mothers on two different occasions to assess reproducibility, obtaining an intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.82. Finally, the instrument was administered to a sample of 219 parents or guardians to evaluate construct validity (KMO test score of 0.78) and reliability (Cronbach’s alpha of 0.89). Conclusion: The instrument to evaluate sugar consumption and frequency in the diet of school-age children was found to be valid and reliable.
