Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of pilates exercise to improve balance in older adults(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-08-04) Gamarra Cosquillo, Selena Margarita; Salguedo Esquivel, Carol Lizet; Matta Solis, Hernán HugoObjective: To determine the effectiveness of Pilates exercises in improving balance in older adults. Material and Methods: Scientific reviews of original articles, using the GRADE evaluation system, where the quality of evidence helps highlight the research work. The following articles were published in the following databases: Scielo, Epistemonikos, Sciencedirect, and PubMed. Of the 10 scientific articles reviewed, 10% (n=1/10) are meta-analyses, 40% (n=4/10) are systematic reviews, 30% (n=3/10) are randomized controlled trials, and 20% (n=2/10) are cohort studies. 80% of the articles are of high quality with a strong recommendation, and 20% are of moderate quality with a weak recommendation. They come from Brazil (40%), followed by Australia (30%), the United States (20%), and Turkey (10%). Results: All of the systematically reviewed articles (100%) indicate that Pilates exercises are effective in improving balance in older adults. Conclusion: It is determined that Pilates exercise is effective in improving balance in older adults: it improves coordination and strengthens muscles, reducing the risk of falls, enhancing the quality of life in performing daily activities, and integrating them into society.
