Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of the lean tool in reducing waiting time in patient care(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-09-26) Palacios Cuba, Liliana; Pretell Aguliar, Rosa MaríaObjective: To systematize the evidence on the effectiveness of the Lean Tool in reducing patient waiting times in healthcare services. Materials and methods: A systematic, observational, and retrospective review of a quantitative nature, subjected to critical selection using the GRADE evaluation system to identify the level of evidence. The articles were found in the following databases: PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scielo, and Epistemonikos. Among the 10 systematically reviewed articles, 20% (n=2/10) are randomized clinical trials, 40% (n=4/10) are case-control studies, and 40% (n=4/10) are cross-sectional case-control studies. The studies originate from Spain (40%), followed by Colombia (20%), Cuba (10%), Chile (10%), Brazil (10%), and Norway (10%). Results: The evidence from the reviewed articles shows that 100% (10/10) demonstrate the effectiveness of the Lean tool in reducing patient waiting times. The main impacts resulting from the application of Lean thinking include: increased productivity and efficiency of the multidisciplinary team, reduction in patient waiting times for care, improvement in service quality, increased patient satisfaction, enhanced safety for both patients and healthcare professionals, and improved staff satisfaction. Conclusion: It is concluded that all 10 reviewed scientific articles demonstrate the effectiveness of the Lean tool in reducing patient waiting times for care.
