Ítem Acceso abierto Prevalence of uncomplicated crown fractures in preschoolers aged 3 to 6 years in the district of San Bartolo, Lima 2018(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-02-13) Linares Mori, Melissa Gabriela; Garavito Chang, Enna LucilaDental fractures are a common cause of emergency dental care, primarily caused by accidental or intentional trauma that not only affects the dental tissue but also the lips, mucous membranes, tongue, etc., impacting phonetics, aesthetics, and function, especially in younger children. These injuries mainly affect minors due to their lower motor skills. Objective: To determine the prevalence of uncomplicated crown fractures in preschool children aged 3 to 6 years in the San Bartolo district, Lima, in 2018. Materials and methods: A quantitative, descriptive, prospective, cross-sectional study was conducted involving 112 preschool children, aged 3 to 6 years. Clinical examination was performed using diagnostic equipment, and findings were recorded in a collection sheet. Results: A prevalence of 39.3% for uncomplicated crown fractures was found. The most prevalent ages were 4 to 5 years, with 17.9% and 11.6%, respectively. Male preschoolers had a higher prevalence of fractures at 22.3%, while the female group had 17%. The most commonly fractured teeth were 51 and 61, with 32.2%, and the most common type of fracture was enamel fracture at 52.2%, followed by enamel and dentin fracture at 42.2%, and finally, enamel infraction at 5.6%.
