(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-04-23) Untiveros Yi, Sandra Iveth; Ascanoa Olazo, Jimmy Antonio
The general objective of this study was to determine the frequency of third molar agenesis in patients aged 14 to 19 treated at Cedident Digital, Lima, in 2016. The study was retrospective, observational, and descriptive. A sample of 256 radiographic plates was used, with 144 from females and 112 from males. It was found that the frequency of third molar agenesis was 21.88%. The female gender had a higher percentage at 64.29%, while the male gender had 35.71%. The highest frequency of agenesis was observed in quadrant III, specifically in tooth 3.8. No statistically significant difference was found at the 95% confidence level in the frequency of agenesis according to gender and quadrant. Higher frequencies of agenesis were found in patients with agenesis in two third molars, and some patients showed agenesis in all four third molars (teeth 18, 28, 38, and 48). Statistically significant differences were found at the 95% level for the agenesis of teeth 28 and 48. It was concluded that in the past 10 years, the frequency of third molar agenesis is variable, but it remains in the range of 13.0% to 30.0%.

Frequency of alveolitis in patients who come to the department of odontostomatology of the Augusto Bernardino Leguía Police Hospital between January 2016 and March 2020
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-11-26) Castillo Gutierrez, Jorge Luis; Ascanoa Olazo, Jimmy Antonio
The objective of this research was to determine the frequency of alveolitis in patients attending the Department of Odonto-Stomatology at the Augusto Bernardino Leguía Police Hospital between January 2016 and March 2020. The methodology was observational, retrospective, cross-sectional, and descriptive, involving a total population of 1583 patients who underwent tooth extractions. Data were collected using a form validated by expert judgment, consisting of two sections: the first for sociodemographic variables and the second for clinical variables, gathered from medical records and the institution's virtual database (Health Information Statistical System-SEIS). Results: The frequency of alveolitis was 2.5%, with 71.8% associated with simple extractions and 28.2% with flap extractions. Among these cases, 66.7% were wet alveolitis, and 33.3% were dry alveolitis. Alveolitis occurred in 61.6% of cases in the lower arch and 38.4% in the upper arch, with 71.8% in molars, 20.5% in premolars, 5.1% in canines, and 2.6% in incisors. It was observed in 51.3% of men and 48.7% of women, 53.8% in adults, 35.9% in older adults, and 10.3% in young individuals. Bacterial origin accounted for 71.8% of cases, while 28.2% were of non-bacterial origin. Conclusion: There is a considerable percentage of alveolitis frequency in this hospital compared to global scientific evidence.

Frequency of Stafne's bone defect evaluated by digital panoramic radiographs of patients treated at the Multident Los Olivos dental clinic period 2019-2020
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-01-05) Encalada Picho, Noemi; Garavito Chang, Enna Lucila
The purpose of this research was to determine the frequency of Stafne bone defects evaluated using digital panoramic radiographs of patients treated at the Multident Los Olivos dental clinic during the 2019-2020 period. Methodology: This was an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, and retrospective study. The study population consisted of 2521 digital panoramic radiographs. The technique used was observation, and data were collected using a specifically designed data collection form, which included patient identity, presence of the defect, sex, age, diameter, affected side, and location. Results: The frequency of Stafne bone defects was low, with 4 cases identified out of 2521 radiographs analyzed, representing 0.2% of the total. Distribution by sex showed 2 cases (0.2%) in males and 2 cases (0.1%) in females (CI: 95%). The mean diameter of the defects was 9.68 mm. Among the 4 cases, the largest defect (14.2 mm) was observed in a 66-year-old woman, while the smallest (6.9 mm) was in a 29-year-old man. All defects were found on the left side. Conclusion: The frequency of Stafne bone defects evaluated through digital panoramic radiographs was low, with four cases identified.

Frequency of temporomandibular joint disorders in patients with rheumatoid arthritis evaluated at the San José Callao Hospital
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-03-03) Guerrero Quintana, Carol Gisela; Del Castillo Ayquipa, Armando
The aim of the study was to determine the frequency of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders in patients with rheumatoid arthritis evaluated at San José Hospital, Callao. The methodology used was observational, descriptive, retrospective, and cross-sectional. A total of 125 patients diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis were analyzed using non-probabilistic convenience sampling. The "Helkimo Index modified by Maglione" and the "Fonseca Anamnestic Index," recorded in medical histories, were employed. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 25, applying the chi-square test along with absolute and relative frequencies, averages, and standard deviations. Results: TMJ disorders were observed in 76.8% of patients, with a similar frequency between males and females (p=0.110), but more frequent in older age groups (p=0.039). The main signs and symptoms included a maximum mandibular opening of 30 to 39 mm, right and left lateral movements of 4 to 6 mm, and maximum protrusion of 4 to 6 mm. Additionally, 56% presented mandibular deviation and/or joint noises during opening movement, 53.6% reported pain during a single movement, 54.4% experienced pain in at least three masticatory muscles during activity, and 53.6% reported pain upon palpation in the pre-auricular region. TMJ disorders were mild, moderate, and severe in 28.0%, 19.2%, and 24.8% of patients, respectively, with similar severities between genders (p=0.049) but more severe in older age groups (p=0.005). Conclusion: Approximately 7 out of 10 patients with rheumatoid arthritis included in the study presented TMJ disorders, with similar frequency, signs, symptoms, and severity between males and females, but higher percentages in older age groups.
