Ítem Acceso abierto Association between occlusal trauma and type of gingival recession in patients treated at the Dental Clinic Ecodental - Huánuco in 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-02-04) Morales Guerrero, Andrea Córali; Meneses Gomez, Nadia CarolinaObjective: To determine the association between occlusal trauma and the type of gingival recession in patients treated at the Ecodental dental clinic in Huánuco in 2021. Methodology: An observational, cross-sectional study was conducted with 108 patients, evaluating clinical indicators for the presence of occlusal trauma, such as wear facets, percussion pain, dental mobility, premature contact, and occlusal interference. Gingival recession was determined according to Miller's classification: class I, II, III, and IV. The data obtained were analyzed using the chi-square test and Fisher's exact test, with statistical significance assumed for a p-value < 0.05. Results: The collected data showed the presence of occlusal trauma in 51.9% of the evaluated patients, associated with wear facets, dental mobility, and premature contact. Regarding the frequency of gingival recession and its types, 75.0% showed recession, with class I being the most prevalent at 39.8%. In the association results between occlusal trauma and gingival recession, 51.9% of patients with occlusal trauma had gingival recession; whereas, in the association between occlusal trauma and the type of gingival recession, 33.3% and 23.5% of patients with occlusal trauma had Miller's class II and I recession, respectively. Conclusions: An association was found between occlusal trauma and the type of gingival recession in the evaluated sample.Ítem Acceso abierto Frequency of dental sensitivity due to gingival recession in patients aged 18 to 60 years treated at the Adult Clinic of the Private University Norbert Wiener in the period September-November 2017(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-02-15) Quispe De la Cruz, Jhonny David; Girano Castaños, Jorge AlbertoThe purpose of this research was to determine the frequency of dentin hypersensitivity due to gingival recession in patients aged 18-60 years, treated at the Adult Dental Clinic of the Universidad Norbert Wiener from September to November 2017. An observational and prospective study was conducted. A total of 151 patients aged 18-60 years with the presence of gingival recession were evaluated. The chi-square test was applied in the analysis. The results showed that, out of 151 patients, 115 (76.20%) presented dentin hypersensitivity due to gingival recession. By sex, 42.6% of the patients with dentin hypersensitivity due to gingival recession were male, and 57.4% were female (p>0.05). Regarding age group, dentin hypersensitivity due to gingival recession was most frequent in the 41 to 55-year-old group (37.4%), followed by 25.2% in the 26 to 40-year-old group (p≤0.05). According to pain intensity and the group of dental pieces examined with dentin hypersensitivity due to gingival recession, mild pain was found to be most frequent in the incisors (49.6%), followed by 37.4% in canines, premolars, and molars. Regarding periodontal recession class and the group of dental pieces examined, class I was most frequent in the incisors (36.4%), followed by 27.8% in canines, premolars, and molars. It was concluded that dentin hypersensitivity due to gingival recession was present in 76.20% of patients aged 18 to 60 years.Ítem Acceso abierto Oral hygiene habits and gingival recession in patients seen in clinics private dental offices in the city of Arequipa, 2022(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-04-10) Cornejo Palomino, Jazmín Estela; Aguirre Morales, Anita KoriThe sample consisted of 384 individuals aged 18 to 59 years residing in the city of Arequipa. Data collection was done using surveys and observations. To assess oral hygiene habits, a 14-item questionnaire was used, and for evaluating gingival recession, an observation form was used to record measurements based on the Cairo classification of gingival recession. Both measurement instruments were validated and approved by an expert committee. Results showed that 77.60% of patients reported regular use of physical elements, 95.05% reported regular use of chemical elements, and 60.16% had a diet that is frequently cariogenic. Meanwhile, only 81.25% did not present gingival recession. Conclusion: No statistically significant relationship was found between oral hygiene habits and gingival recession, as the Spearman correlation statistic showed a significance of 0.221.Ítem Acceso abierto Relationship between the types of upper labial braces and the presence of gingival recessions in adult patients of the rehabilitative dental center, lima in the period January – March 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-12-01) Turpo Chávez, Janet Elizabeth; Girano Castaños, Jorge AlbertoThe relationship between the types of upper labial frenulum and the presence of gingival recessions in adult patients at the Rehabilitoral Dental Center in Lima during the period of January to March 2021 was determined. An observational, analytical, and cross-sectional study was designed, including 91 adult patients. The insertion of the labial frenulum was visualized in each patient by extending the upper lip and observing the position of the gingival margin in relation to the cementoenamel junction. Frequency analysis and contingency tables were performed to present the findings. It was found that 55 patients had a mucosal frenulum (60.4%), 33 had a gingival frenulum (36.3%), and 3 had a papillary frenulum (3.3%), with no cases of transpapillary frenulum. 49 patients had at least one gingival recession (53.8%), and 42 did not (46.2%). 14 men had gingival frenulums (42.4%) and 36 women had mucosal frenulums (65.5%). 30 mucosal frenulums presented teeth with at least one gingival recession, and 19 gingival frenulums had some recession. The study concluded that mucosal labial frenulums were the most frequent, followed by gingival frenulums, and papillary frenulums were the least frequent. No significant relationship was found between the types of mucosal frenulums and the sex and age of the patients evaluated.
