Comparative in vitro analysis of the compressive resistance of a modified resin with pre-reacted glass ionomer and other hybrid resins, Lima 2019
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-11-13) Barrera Luna, Rosa Victoria; Rufasto Goche, Katherine Susan
The objective of this study was to evaluate the in vitro compressive strength of a resin modified with surface pre-reacted glass ionomer and other hybrid resins. Methodology: An experimental, cross-sectional, and prospective study was conducted. The study population consisted of 90 specimens, with a significant sample of 30 specimens: 10 specimens of Beautifil II Shofu®, 10 specimens of Filtek P60 3M®, and 10 specimens of Tetric N Ceram®. Compressive strength was evaluated, and statistical analysis was performed using the ANOVA test. Results: The mean compressive strength for Beautifil II Shofu was 293.94 ± 32.49 MPa; for Tetric N Ceram hybrid resin, it was 251.96 ± 50.25 MPa; and for Filtek P60 3M hybrid resin, it was 374.06 ± 36.28 MPa. Comparisons showed the following ranking in compressive strength: Filtek P60 3M > Beautifil II Shofu (p<0.05) and Filtek P60 3M > Tetric N Ceram (p<0.05). Conclusions: Among the evaluated modified resins, Filtek P60 demonstrated the highest compressive strength, followed by Beautifil II and Tetric N Ceram.

Effect of 1.23% acidulated fluorphosphate and 2% sodium fluoride on the fracture resistance of resin-modified glass ionomer
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-06-14) Canales Rios, Alexandra Yveth; Menacho Angeles, Gregorio Lorenzo
The methodological design was observational, comparative, and cross-sectional. A total of 45 samples of glass ionomer discs with a resin composition from a commercial brand (Vitremer) were used, with a diameter of 2 mm and a thickness of 6 mm, distributed into groups: for the first group, 15 discs of ionomer with a resin composition were treated with 0.05 ml of 1.23% fluoride from a commercial brand (Maquira); for the second group, 15 discs of ionomer with a resin composition were treated with 0.05 ml of 2% fluoride from a commercial brand (Maquira), and both groups were treated with fluoride for 4 minutes, followed by washing and drying. The third group consisted of 15 discs of ionomer with resin composition to which no fluoride was applied. The results of the Tukey HSD multiple comparison test showed a statistically significant difference (p=0.000) between the resistance of the acidulated phosphate fluoride group at 1.23% (mean=21.36360 Kg/mm²) and the control group (mean=25.36360 Kg/mm²). In conclusion, the average resistance of the fluoride group at 1.23% concentration and the fluoride group at 2% concentration did not show statistically significant differences (p=0.198).

Moisture absorption and resistance to acid dissolution in glass ionomer cements with and without surface protection during the first 24 hours: in vitro study
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-05-20) Romero Cárdenas, Zuly Marisol; Arauzo Sinchez, Carlos Javier
Objective: To evaluate the effect of surface protection on moisture absorption and acid dissolution resistance in glass ionomers during the first 24 hours. Methodology: An experimental (in vitro), longitudinal, and comparative study was conducted with 40 glass ionomer disk samples (10mm x 2mm). Two groups were formed: G1 (control) without surface protection and G2 (experimental group) with surface protection (solid petroleum jelly). To evaluate moisture absorption, the samples were immersed in water, and to assess acid dissolution, they were submerged in 3% citric acid. The weight of the samples was recorded at 0, 6, 12, and 24 hours and compared between the groups (independent t-test) and within each group (dependent t-test). Results: No significant difference was found between the two groups in moisture absorption, but differences were observed in acid dissolution at 6 and 12 hours. In group G1, both submerged in water (p=0.0009; p=0.0094; p=0.0158) and in acid (p=0.000; p=0.000; p=0.000), significant differences were found at 6, 12, and 24 hours, respectively. In group G2, submerged in water (p=0.3279; p=0.0004; p=0.0000) showed differences at 12 and 24 hours, and in acid (p=0.0000; p=0.0000; p=0.0000), no significant differences were observed. Conclusion: No significant difference was found in moisture absorption between using or not using surface protection over the 24-hour period; however, differences in acid dissolution were observed between the two groups.
