Ítem Acceso abierto Performance of health personnel in victims of penetrating firearm wounds to prevent life-threatening complications(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-12-01) Camac Toribio, Jennyfer Kathleen; Vargas Donayre, Carmen Judith; Pretell Aguilar, Rosa MariaOBJECTIVE: To systematize the evidence regarding the role of healthcare personnel in victims of penetrating gunshot wounds to prevent potentially fatal complications. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This is a systematic review of 10 scientific articles on the role of healthcare personnel in victims of penetrating gunshot wounds to prevent potentially fatal complications. The articles were obtained from the following databases: Pubmed, Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library, Dialnet, Scielo, and Lilacs, and were analyzed according to the GRADE scale to determine the strength and quality of the evidence. Of the 10 articles, 70% correspond to randomized clinical trials, and 30% to systematic review methodology. The countries of origin are the United States (20%), Egypt (10%), Turkey (10%), Brazil (20%), England (10%), Colombia (10%), Germany (10%), and Mexico (10%). RESULTS: Of the 10 articles reviewed, 100% (10/10) demonstrate that the actions of healthcare personnel in victims of penetrating gunshot wounds are effective in preventing potentially fatal complications. CONCLUSIONS: All 10 of the articles provide evidence that the actions of healthcare personnel in victims of penetrating gunshot wounds are effective in preventing potentially fatal complications. This highlights the importance of healthcare intervention, with different methods of care for various types of injuries in victims with such trauma, which helps initiate proper control of tissue damage and injuries, as well as preventing possible fatal complications.
