The objective of this study was to determine the level of knowledge about oral hygiene habits in secondary school students at the Colegio Nacional Virgen del Socorro in Pomabamba, Ancash, 2017. The study sample consisted of 291 secondary school students of both sexes. A non-probabilistic, convenience sampling technique was used, based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. A validated 12-question closed-ended survey with multiple-choice options regarding oral hygiene habits was developed. The results showed that the level of knowledge about oral hygiene habits among the students of both sexes was poor in 34%, regular in 48.4%, and good in 17.6%.Ítem Acceso abierto (Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2017) Julca Sanchez, Huber Edwin; Vilchez Bellido, DinaThe objective of this study was to determine the oral hygiene habits and the level of oral hygiene in first-year students of the Dentistry program at Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, Lima 2016. This was an observational, prospective, cross-sectional, and descriptive study. The sample consisted of 60 students aged 19 to 24 years, selected through intentional sampling. An 8-question survey was used to assess oral hygiene habits, and the O'Leary index was employed to determine the level of oral hygiene. These instruments were validated through expert judgment. Regarding oral hygiene habits, the majority of students showed good hygiene habits. However, regarding the level of oral hygiene, 88.9% had poor hygiene, and only 11.1% had adequate oral hygiene. 100% of the students used a toothbrush, 77.8% used toothpaste, 38.9% used dental floss, 33.3% used mouthwash, and 11.1% used a toothpick in their daily oral care. Regarding brushing frequency, 50.0% brushed their teeth three times a day, 48.8% brushed in the morning, afternoon, and night, and 72.2% changed their toothbrush every three months. Oral hygiene habits and levels could improve with the oral health knowledge gained during the professional training of Dentistry students.Ítem Acceso abierto Oral hygiene habits and gingival recession in patients seen in clinics private dental offices in the city of Arequipa, 2022(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-04-10) Cornejo Palomino, Jazmín Estela; Aguirre Morales, Anita KoriThe sample consisted of 384 individuals aged 18 to 59 years residing in the city of Arequipa. Data collection was done using surveys and observations. To assess oral hygiene habits, a 14-item questionnaire was used, and for evaluating gingival recession, an observation form was used to record measurements based on the Cairo classification of gingival recession. Both measurement instruments were validated and approved by an expert committee. Results showed that 77.60% of patients reported regular use of physical elements, 95.05% reported regular use of chemical elements, and 60.16% had a diet that is frequently cariogenic. Meanwhile, only 81.25% did not present gingival recession. Conclusion: No statistically significant relationship was found between oral hygiene habits and gingival recession, as the Spearman correlation statistic showed a significance of 0.221.
