Publicación Acceso abierto Influencia de la hemoglobina AS sobre la haptoglobina, índice de hierro y transferrina en escolares de nivel primario del distrito de El Carmen de la provincia de Chincha, año 2017(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-11-06) Perez Coronel, Keisy Anduanet; Pérez Lagones, Edy; Parreño Tipián, Juan ManuelThe objective of this study was to determine the influence of hemoglobin AS on haptoglobin, iron index, and transferrin in elementary school students in the district of El Carmen, Chincha province, in 2017. The methodology was non-experimental, prospective, cross-sectional, applied, and descriptive. The study population consisted of 433 schoolchildren. Capillary and venous blood were drawn from them to determine hemoglobin (using the cyanmethemoglobin method), hematocrit (microcentrifugation), and to perform the sickle cell formation test (using the metabisulfite method). Additionally, an electrophoretic determination using cellulose acetate was conducted to find the hemoglobin S characteristic of drepanocytosis or sickle cell traits. Haptoglobin (immunoturbidimetric method), iron index (ferrozine method), and transferrin (immunoturbidimetric method) were also determined. The following results were obtained: 36% of cases presented with decreased hemoglobin and hematocrit values. The sickled form in their erythrocytes after deoxygenation with sodium metabisulfite was positive in 15%. The abnormal hemoglobin type found through the electrophoretic study in those cases with decreased hemoglobin, hematocrit, and sickle cell formation was hemoglobin AS, in a total of 24 cases between the ages of 4 and 12. Haptoglobin determination in these cases showed that 84% had normal values, 8% had low values, and 8% had high values. The iron index and transferrin were found to be within normal values. It was concluded that hemoglobin AS influences iron and transferrin, maintaining their normal values, but not haptoglobin.
