Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of health literacy in elderly adults to improve quality of life(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-12-02) Palacios Rubio, Jessica Hilda; Rengifo Alegria, Katia Evelin; Uturunco Vera, Milagros LizbethObjective: The purpose is to analyze whether health literacy improves the quality of life of an older adult. Materials and Methods: The present systematic review has 10 scientific articles that were found from the databases: Epystemonikos, Ncbi, Pubmed and Journales Medline Ebsco. It was limited to articles with full text, a judicious interpretation was made; using the Grade System evaluation to assess its degree of evidence. Among them, 30% (n=3/10) are meta-analyses (13,14,15), 50% (n=5/10) are systematic reviews (16,17,18,19,20), 10 %(n=1/10) is a randomized clinical trial (21) and 10% (n=1/10) is an experimental study (22). Results: We found that 100% (n=10/10) of the evidence is effective in improving quality of life in older adults; being of importance the degree of education, the degree of adherence, prevention and promotion in the primary area and the technological tools Conclusions: The study concluded that health literacy in older adults is effective to improve the quality of life since it has an impact on health, level and quality of self-care; degree of understanding and monitoring for adherence and participation in prevention and health promotion programs. Professionals should emphasize teaching virtual tools such as the Internet, email, search engines, and apps; as a way to bring older adults closer to innovations.
