Ítem Acceso abierto Critical review: effect of beta-glucans on postprandial glycemic response in adults(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-05-26) Meza Quispe, Nancy; Bohórquez Medina, Andrea LisbetThe consumption of β-glucan is related to the reduction of risk factors associated with diabetes and obesity by reducing the glycemic response and the level of low-density lipoproteins. The present critical review aimed to conduct a critical review on the effect that beta-glucans have on the postprandial glycemic response in adults. The clinical question was: Does the consumption of beta-glucans (from barley or oats) have an effect to improve the postprandial glycemic response? The Evidence-Based Nutrition (NuBE) methodology was used. The data search was carried out in PUBMED, SCIENCE DIRECT, SCIELO and REDALYC, finding 33 articles, 11 being selected to be evaluated by the CASPE critical reading tool; and finally the Randomized Clinical Trial titled “Effect of adding oat bran to instant oats on the glycemic response in humans: a study to establish the minimum effective dose of oat β-glucan” was identified, which has a level of evidence I and a Grade of Recommendation I, according to the researcher's expertise. The critical comment allows us to conclude that the consumption of oat beta-glucans has positive effects on the control of the postprandial glycemic response.
