Ítem Acceso abierto Association of serum cortisol levels and burnout syndrome in workers of the clinical pathology service of the Hospital Nacional Docente Madre Niño San Bartolomé, 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-04-28) Bermudo Rodriguez, Juana Rosa; Valenzuela Martinez, Stefany SaragozaA descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 81 workers, including both male and female volunteers over 18 years old, medical laboratory technicians, clinical and pathological anatomy technologists, and pathologists. Cortisol concentration was measured, and the Maslach questionnaire was used to determine burnout syndrome. The participants had an average age of 42 ± 10.3 years (range 21 to 67 years), with 41 (50.6%) being female. The most frequent age groups were 31 to 40 years and 51 to 65 years, both accounting for 34.6%. Of the participants, 48 (59.3%) were medical technologists, 29 (35.8%) were laboratory technicians, and 3 (3.7%) were pathologists. The most common length of service was 1 to 10 years (43.2%), followed by 11 to 20 years (24.7%). Burnout syndrome was evident in 24 (29.6%), 64 (79%), and 72 (88.9%) participants in the emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment dimensions, respectively. A correlation was found between serum cortisol concentrations in the first morning analysis (A.M.) and all three burnout dimensions. Conclusion: There is an association between the first morning measurement of serum cortisol levels and all three dimensions of burnout syndrome.
